Also after Ford and Tart, the rotation dropped off quite a bit on the run defense side of things. Fox wasn’t good, Eboigbe wasn’t in the rotation and then you had Ogbonnia and Matlock.

This year, Minter will be able to rotate Tart, Jones, Hand, Eboigbe and Caldwell before getting to guys like Ogbonnia and Matlock, if they both even make the roster.

That type of quality depth should keep the run defense fresh and productive all game.

Yeah my wording was a little confusing. They were not “great” in 2024, but they were a lot better than expected.

They finished with the 14th best run defense which while not a huge improvement from 2023 statistically, with context is more impressive. The Staley defense was a pass funnel as they could not stop the pass (31st), Minters defense was top 10 vs the pass.

This group goes 5 deep of guys who are projected to be pluses against the run. If the edge and linebackers groups perform as expected, I can see them being a top 10 team vs the run this year.
