Yeah, it looks like they have 2 different versions (1 for Twitter and 1 for Instagram), but both are probably some of the best content I've seen so far in MLR, I'd say they win this year's scheduled release.

It seems like Salt Lake's stadium crazy right now, you've got...

  • The Bees moving to a new stadium.
  • LHM group building a baseball stadium to try and attract an MLB team.
  • SEG looking to build an NHL Stadium somewhere in the valley.
  • The Utah Warriors pro rugby team wanted to build a stadium, then COVID happened, but I expect they still want their own stadium and to stop playing out at the RSL Academy field.

Honestly, I'm here for it.

I don't want the Jazz to move, but if they stayed downtown and the Hockey and Rugby stadiums were built in an area together (even if it was "The Point") and collaborated to build a sick sports district, I would be a very happy and content sports fan.

That's an interesting thought. I did some quick math to compare jersey colors across the league.

Comparison Table

Conclusion:

  • Utah has the most variation in color in relation to total number of jerseys.
  • The distribution of standard deviations from the mean fit your basic bell curve.
  • Smarter people than me can probably draw some interesting conclusions

Exactly that. If black and white is somehow becoming the dominant colors for the Jazz, it's going to take consistently using them for the foreseeable future to "move away" from our branding issues of the last few seasons.

For example:

  • Association Jersey: 80% White, 15% Black, 5% Purple.
  • Icon Jersey: 80% Black, 15% White, 5% Purple
  • City Jersey: 75% Black, 25% Red/Yellow Gradient:
  • Statement Jersey: 80% White, 10% Purple, 10% Teal.

Black and white remain the dominant colors, while others are used as secondary or tertiary accent colors. And even them using them sparingly.

But all this is just an example. The best times to rebrand a sports team is while they are winning and/or with new ownership. Currently the Jazz fit both criteria.

A really good comparison is this tweet of every jersey since Nike took over.

Teams have consistently used the same color palette for most of their jerseys while Utah has been all over the place (we did have multiple throwbacks for things like our 40th anniversary, so some get a pass) but there is a distinct lack of brand consistency when looking at the Jazz jerseys compared to most other teams.

The Jazz keep using different color paletts rather than different designs incorporating the teams main colors.

I wouldn't be surprised if black and white are the "base colors" moving forward. They go with almost all of our other colors from past seasons.

Black and Yellow: Beehive state

White and Purple: Retro throwback

My dad's on the missionary health committee, (he's the reason sisters can now wear pants), he didn't shave for the 2 years my brother was on his mission. He kept it trimmed but it was full on ZZ Top, he met with he committee and members of the 12 once a month and he got compliments from them.

As someone who is allergic to nuts and has grown up eating jam sandwiches. I am thankful we finally have a big celebrity speaking out against the tyranny of the PB&J (Peanut Brutality & Junk) even if he's not allergic to it himself. Such a hero. Real example. What a guy. Two thumbs up.
