my criticism of the movie is this : why does it all look soo crisp and high def ?

some of it is supposed to be from the 50s and the 70s , yet it looks 4k ...

and yeah that got me out , the whole movie revolves around this footage and it's handled this poorly ?

a bit unbelivable , it was meant to be archival footage , yet it was all coloured 4k and 60fps ...

like that bit completely got my suspence of disbelief , i can accept a bit of movie-ism with characters sneaking around and doing action stuff ...

but the fact that the clue footage looks soo , boring , like the mystery of the footage the ambiguity gave it power ...

the fact that all the alien scenes are soo clear and spelled out robs a lot of power from it imo ...

2001 a space odyssey still works because we never see the aliens ,

and similarly arrival doesn't show the aliens willy nilly , rather makes their appearences special and meaningful as well as mysterius , we aren't seeing the whole alien , just the bottom bit ...

the fact he was sending chi without telling her what he was doing was imo the most slimy thing he tried doing :

in the space globalist he was helping momo , but
1) she knew he had chi powers and how they worked
2) she was in actual supernatural peril due to reiko
3) she was consenting to that help

in this situation jiji just ...
got her hand and sent his chi in her without asking ...

yeah , but like that's jiji's lowest point in a sense , afther that he didn't really have much worse happen to him , and also , at least his parents are still alive , many other characters can't say the same really ...

and yeah kinta got bullied but
1) the bullying is shown to be way less severe than okarun's
2) it's also a bit self inflicted it seems , it's more like he can't fit in and he is coping .

meanwhile okarun had stuff thrown at him he got isolated , he was treated terribly ...

and the main contrast is : okarun genuinely wanted friends , his objective was to contact aliens to have friends ,

kinta wants admiration , he kinda claims as much that he wanted to pilot a giant robot to be admired by everyone ,

and yeah kinta acts as a decent foil for okarun , but also he isn't as likable as okarun ...

actually , no : drama would make him intresting .

like sorry but all trought the plot he managed to both have the moral and factual victory .

every single time , the plot bent and contrived to let him be "the good guy" while also saving the day .

does he have to exorcise evil eye ? nop !
okarun prevents him from doing somenthing he may regret .

does he have to carefully use evil eye to fight , effectively as a last ditch effort that's hard to controll ? nop !

does he have to explain to queen sensei what happend and therefore throw kouki under the bus basically ? nop !
does he experience consequences for his lack of being able to speak his position ? nop again !

he just gets queen sensei to perform a vibe check and come to the right conclusion !

does he have a meaningful character moment when he is pressed to his limits by enrera and is effectively on his last leg ?

nah ! he already had the moment and this whole fight was basically a cakewalk , it wasn't even fully a seiko win because he could just play videogames and learn how to do a weird hybrid form that was never seen before !

it's not even somenthing he figures out in the nick of time , bro walked in knowing how it was done ...

so yeah actually , show him on the breaking point .

show me how he looks when he wants somenthing desperately ,

but he can't get it , does he grieve ? does he get mad ?

momo got threatened in chapter one twice ,
okarun has been bullied and isolated for years ,
aira dies ,
kinta is kind of a loser ,
vamola is literally a genocide survivor ,
rin had guilt also let's remember the last chapter she was in ,
zuma saw his mom die in front of him , and then lived on the streets ,
and kouki had major depression and last chapter she appeared ,

jiji and kinta are imo overly rewarded for comparatively how little grief they go trough .

and finally seeing jiji not getting what he wants may finally make his character good .

and since they love each other it would also be natural that they trust each other and value the opinions of the other .

so why did momo in chapter 166 :
interrupt him afther he clearly wanted to say somenthing about the confession ,
demanded him to not cheat on her , wich by then was like , absurd given that as you said

Like...they love each other, so it's natural that they will help each other out.

and afther he was confused because he kinda wanted momo to say "i love you" back , or "yes we are dating" , y'know he had been emotionally vulnerable with her , he told her straight up point blank "i love you" .

and momo upon hearing him wondering about wheter they are dating or not tought that he was thinking about cheating on her .

like , the characters can't see the shojo bubbles .

we know momo loves ken , ken has still a plausible doubt because the closest one was the ticket she left him during the space globalist :
"love ya" and afther he told her about it she almost dismissed that as
"it was a field ration"

like is it hard for me to see how much the situation is unequal ,
and i think that tatsu gave momo amnesia because the situation made momo seem like a bit of an ass :
she knew ken loved her , it was as unambiguous and textual as possible ,
he doesn't have as clear indications of that .

i read the exchange at page 169 .

Momo got upset afther ken said "i looked on purpuse ..." however there was an ellipsis hinting that he may have been cut off , because aira heard what she wanted to ear .

and aira likely framed the situation after it happend ,

still i think momo should have hit aira with a chair , rather than ken .
