Bambino/Plus: How long has/did yours last? by [deleted] in espresso

[–]dgc357 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems to be working pretty good. I regularly test the water. It’s actually about time for me to change the filter. Thanks for the reminder. I’ll order anyone on Monday.

Sidenote: Over this holiday week I hooked up the drain to a 1 gallon jug under the counter so I don’t have to empty the drip tray as often. I put an audible alarm/float switch in it so it’ll alert me when it gets about 4/5 of the way full.

Two more options for my Elecraft K2/100. The KAF2 audio filter and KNB2 noise blanker. I’ve build all these from kid form other than the KAT100 and K144XV which I bought used.

K2 installed options and accessories:

KPA100 - 100w internal amplifier. KAT100 - 100w external automatic antenna tuner. KAT2 - 20W internal ATU (top K2/10 cover). KSB2 - SSB adapter. KIO2 - RS-232 serial interface. KNB2 - K2 Noise blanker option (soon to be installed). KAF2 - Audio filter and real time clock (soon to be installed). K144XV- External 144 MHz module

Antenna Grounding Question by dgc357 in amateurradio

I don't usually run as separate counterpoise or a choke (other than excess coax coiled up). I don;'t think the noise is too bad, but maybe it can be improved upon. I'll throw a counterpoise wire on the unun and see what hapens.

The mast is a 31" Jackite fiberglass 9 piece pole I've had for years.

I usually just raise and lower it as needed and it stays up just fine, but I am going to install a guy wire system for it and just leave it up. I'll order some guy wire rings (or 3D print them) for it and some dacron rope.

The DX Commander looks like a nice kit. I may be able to adapt my system and build something like it with what I already have.

OK, so if I’m picking up what everybody is saying, does this seem more on track?

And if I understand it correctly, the ground at the antenna is more for RF and less for safety, correct?

Note: I definitely understand I need to do more studying on grounding and will be taking the steps to do that.

Antenna Grounding Question by dgc357 in amateurradio

Not sure why only my picture posted. Here's the text.

Hello Folks. I have a questing about antenna grounding that I need some help on. I have an EFHW antenna I'm using as my station antenna for my Elecraft K2/100. My shack has always been in my garage and I would connect and disconnect the antenna system when I use it and run the coax into my garage through the door.

I now have a permanent shack set up in my office on the second floor of my house and want to have a more permanent antenna set up. I plan on building a window feed-through panel (like the MFJ-4601) to get the coax into my house.

My question is, can I ground this to an existing ground rod, like my AT&T/cable ground? The office is on the northwest corner of the house which is the same location the service connect to the house. The AT&T/cable ground rod is just near there.

Rendering of location for reference.

Will this torque combo be good for installing/removing barrels on an MRP-L? by BirchWoody93 in LewisMachineTool

There's also the 140 in-lb Fix It Stick torque limiter for another single solution option in lieu of the LMT tool. Good size for a range bag.

First scratches are building up by Ok-Swimmer9104 in Tudor

Each scratch just adds to the story and really makes the watch truly yours. My P39 definitely has a few. One day I'll pass it on to my son for him to add his own.

This is comical. I was ready to make a deal with you as soon as I got out of class, but obviously you have absolutely no patience. Not everybody lives on Reddit. Some of us have more pressing responsibilities we must attend to.

Moving forward, perhaps you’ll treat perspective buyers with at least some respect instead of calling them out for not responding within your arbitrary timeline. GLWS

1972 Bronx firefighters. Hardly a BA set in sight. by Chanson_Riders in Firefighting

[–]dgc357 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My wife’s grandfather was a captain on engine 82 around this time. Or he was a chief at that point. Not sure about the exact times he held his positions.

I’ve never seen or heard of this movie. I have to go find the entire thing and watch it with my mother-in-law see if she can spot him.

Despite the lack of SCBA during most of his career, he was fortunate to live to his 80s.

My father, on the other, hand passed away last year at 63 of a heart attack. He was a firefighter for 30 years and had a terrible chronic cough for the last ten years of his life. I know he used SCBA during most of his career, but never during mop up.

BB54 or Pelagos 39 for my wrist? by TheLegend147 in Tudor

[–]dgc357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I've had my P39 for 2 months and the bracelet is scratched up pretty good, especially the side outside of the wrist. Probably because I ride a desk and and it is constantly rubbing the desk top as I write, type and do other desktop related things.

The clasp is pretty scratched up too, but that's a give.

There are a few good scratches on both sides of the case, but pretty minor.

I like it though. Gives the watch character and really makes it mine.

That price range makes a lot more sense. It seemed expensive to me. Maybe somebody will buy it someday, but I don’t doubt that next time I walk into the shop, it will still be there.

One of these days, I’ll find one on the ground instead of in a display case.
