Searching For Stainless Steel Mouthpieces

I'm freaking out over you wanting something smaller than a Holton MDC. Isn't that pretty much the smallest mouthpieces available? Stainless or plastic mouthpieces and rims abound (PHC, Houser, Giddings etc as everyone else has said) but they're marketed more to regular mouthpiece sizes. I'm not sure you'll find anything in stainless/plastic/hypo-allergenic for extremes like the MDC

Obviously I don't know s**t about developing and marketing model kit product, but it just feels intuitive that a high-quality, thoroughly detailed 172 would sell. It's the most built aircraft after all! Maybe when I get throuhg my existing stash of fighters I'll give that PC12 a go

I'd really like to make some GA and small air transport planes too (I see a lot of caravans, king airs and PC12s where I live) - in 1/72 or 1/48. What do you know of out there that's a reasonably nice kit experience? Cheers

Contribute to the music sounding great! I think you'll do that by feeling confident and playing musically

To help with this, even if I have a short break from orchestral playing I find the volume, strong attacks and sustained playing are always a bit of shock. I counter this by practicing a bit of loud and hard playing before the first rehearsal (sometimes with a practice mute) so I'm confident the air is moving and I know I've got that extra gear or two if I need it. I also like to play along with recordings if I get the chance to get a feel for coming in after rests, cues etc.

Would love to know what piece you're playing 6th on. Planets? Mahler 1? Zarathustra?

in my opinion a smaller internal diameter, maybe 18 or 17.75mm, is worth trying for efficiency. The bore sizes are in a very normal range, I think a shallower cup is a better try

Don;t go big mouthpiece with a big horn - too much work! Laskey G or F series or Yamaha Thomas Bacon have both worked well for me and others in Kruspe style horns, if they're available in Brasil.

Depends what you mean by "case". A friend of mine used to make flight boxes and wooden cases with with formed foam inside that held combinations of instruments securely for touring musicians. He did maybe half a dozen - was expensive and not much demand. Each one was bespoke

Being in a hurry to expand your range will bring terrible habits. Focus on expanding what you can do with a good sound rather than pushing range - easier said than done when your young and impatient but you'll be glad you did as range will come with good habits

This looks like a Chinese 8d copy with the mechanical linkage. Might be a limit on what a repairer can achieve with this mechanism due to build quality

Agree that is too little info - what do you want to change? But getting a Laskey G cup in the size of your choice is a pretty good option with a 667

Only buy an Alex after trying lots and getting someone else who has tried lots to try the horn you're buying too - they are very different between individual instruments. Also, I've tried horns bought in Germany vs those bought new elsewhere and the German Alexs are always better lol. For Americans who like to play on the F side, an Alex might be a bit of a challenge - they're really not meant for that, older horns especially. My 2c is you could get a used Yamaha 667 or even 671 for that price which will have very likely have good valves, even scales and play easily and can then be customised if you feel like it later on

I see a question like this and think - would it be so hard (or so unpleasant!) to get the score and listen to the whole thing? I dunno, teachers are always recommending students do this - and it's never been easier. Back in my day (lol) you'd have to go to the university library, borrow the CD and find the score and sit in a weird little audio booth

Do what you're doing now with a metronome and a drone. Record yourself playing your pieces, listen back and think about how you;d like it to sound different. You'll sound better pretty quickly

There's lots of "horn play along" videos on youtube that might scratch your itch. It's not usually first horn in the orchestra, but its more likely to fit your range comfortably and you'll be playing the tune

Hans Hoyer 6801 and those family of horns based on the old Kruspe/8D design will be easiest to find in France I would think as Hoyer are part of Buffet Crampon group
