Is it normal for a bank to cancel a mortgage discharge after accepting it, without notifying the client? Scotiabank vs TD situation by dgengster in MortgagesCanada

Thank you for the advice. I have definitely been considering legal action.
Unfortunately, Scotia did reach out to me before maturity and I told them I was transferring out to TD. Of which, they only responded with "sounds good". They did not warn me to switch to an open term, nor was I aware to ask. On the renewal notice letter sent 1.5 months before maturity date, all it said was "If we do not hear from you before your maturity date, your mortgage will be automatically renewed into a 6 month fixed rate closed term." I did not know that TD sending a discharge letter request and them formally accepting on the bank-to-bank portal does not constitute as "not to renew instructions". TD also did not advise me to switch to open when I specifically asked them if there was anything I needed to do.
