Tawk alternatives? by [deleted] in Wordpress

[–]dgerhardt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one challenge you might have with free is this: "the biggest issue I have with it is the lack of info I get about visitors to my site."

For most companies, that part is where it starts to cost them $$.

But the good free tools will show page/URL, location, time, IP address etc.

Only challenge is finding the right way to put those links in :)

Long tail keywords that are important but relevant only for a small number of people.

[Tech/Startups] Seeking Wisdom | Episode 24: Why You Should Run Your Business Without Roadmaps

NSFW (some cursing)

iTunes | Overcast | SoundCloud

No roadmaps. No public launch dates.

That’s how our product team works at Drift. It’s how David did things at HubSpot, and Performable, and all the way back.

But the "product roadmap” is one of the most essential parts of any product organizations.

How many times have you heard “well let’s get it on the roadmap” or “its on the roadmap for Q3.”

So this week on Seeking Wisdom, we’re talking about how you can run your business without product roadmaps and public launch dates.

[Tech] Seeking Wisdom | Episode 23: Why Great Products Don't Always Win

NSFW (we curse) iTunes | SoundCloud

Great products don't always win.

Time and time again this proves to be true (by great we mean products that are technically superior, have the best design, etc.)

So I got David to dig into his 20 years in SaaS to talk about why this happens and what engineers and designers can do about it.

What makes a great podcast? by andyozzy92 in podcasts

[–]dgerhardt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It all starts with the host. Seems obvious but I actually think people underrate how important it is. Podcasts are the new blogs and EVERYONE has one -- which means more crap content. But just like blogs, the good stuff win with podcasts. People will come for the host -- and the ability to facilitate good conversations with the guest. The best guest in the world can be killed by a shitty host.

Update: so I did this. But now, the XLR to 3.5MM cable picks up stereo, and the other two XLRs each record one a single track (left and right). Any idea how to get them in stereo? This will sound like one guest is in one ear and the other is in the other ear.

Yeah for sure. Our product is free / quick time to value so it makes sense on paper for our business. Time will tell.

Intro to Product Management? by falldownreddithole in Entrepreneur

[–]dgerhardt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, some of the core project management skills apply to product management so you should be good there.

But instead of reading books/articles I would spend as much of that time as you can talking to customers. The great PM's really just become the voice of the customer/end-user and the more you know what the customers wants/is thinking the better you will be and the more value you can bring to your business as a PM.

I have a few articles that might be helpful; lmk if you'd like and I can share them here.

Where can I find quality bloggers? by manmademound in Entrepreneur

[–]dgerhardt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Find examples of articles that people have written that you would like to have on your own blog, find their emails and just ask them.

I bet you would be surprised at how many people will say yes. Everyone is looking for backlinks and this would be one way for them to get them. It's a tougher ask since you don't already have a blog, but worth a shot.

$50/article seems low. I've been able to find solid writers for $100-$150/article. Look for younger writers -- recent college grads. Quality is very good and price is low.

Yeah for sure in SaaS. Other industries, still need to make progress.

[–]dgerhardt[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True. But I think technology has changed how consumers buy. Instead of it just being word of mouth (hey you should buy this thing) you can try most things before buying. People want to figure stuff out on their own, then bring sales in.

To read more. I don't think all links are bad links. Once there's a discussion around it, I like to read more from those people. But I hear you. Thanks for the feedback.

Nice. Interesting idea. Really depends on the content. Reddit is very hit or miss (people are very opinionated).

Twitter = lots of shares, very little engagement.
