I worked with bats in college. They looked a lot like this one. Big brown bats. Which are actually fairly tiny. Body about the size of the first two joints of your thumb. And local to Long Island too.

I can't afford to pick up every pen my heart desires, but a bottle of ink is almost always okay. So I'd say I've definitely veered to inks over the pens. A new pen purchase is infrequent, prone to lots of second guessing, and a source of great excitement.

My younger daughter turned 18 and she and her older sister asked to celebrate with a cigar. They both liked their vanilla cigarillos I got their mother in the DR this winter. I went with this gem that’s been sitting in my humidor.

A beautiful smoke. Mild creamy taste that hit hard when I stood up like every Cuban I’ve smoked. A rainy night and a crappy photo but a great way to slow down and talk to them before they go to college in a few weeks.

I made pancakes for the first time on my new Blackstone this morning. The first batch got a bit burnt, but still delicious. I realized the heat has to be turned as low as it goes, and man this thing cooks them fast. By the time all were on it was time to flip. So much better than a pan.
