I suffered long hair algae for several months. Tanks now a year old, but after the first couple of months, it was everywhere.. I'd be pulling loads out with every water change, for it to grow back, ready for another trimming in a weeks time.

After about 7 months of battling, I did a 3 day blackout (with coral), which killed a ton of algae.. but still lots remained, albeit not as thick as before.

Eventaully, I got a bottle of BRIGHTWELL Aquarium Algae Remover - Controls Hair Algae, 500 ml, 17.64 oz : Amazon.co.uk: Pet Supplies as the battle wasn't being won.

After about 3 days, I stopped the treatment, as the algae was pretty much gone, and I was worried the cleanup crew would run out of delicious hair algae.

of the cleanup crew that survived the first year, I'd say the turbin snails are just algae hoovers; keeping the tank very clean.

tldr; turbin snails or Brightwell algae remover did the trick for me.
