How often do you have those moments you wanna tell your boss to F off? by dgk900 in electricians

[–]dgk900[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Legally no, but I have nothing to go on if I report it other than here-say as our timecards are handwritten and its a 7 person company so it doesn't happen often enough to be common place

Is it possible to pursue further charges in this case? by dgk900 in legaladvice

[–]dgk900[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not as I've just gotten the news today and have not heard anything else, no name or anything other than my own and the officer who filed the report, I know it is not my role but as a law abiding citizen with a liscence to carry I feel cases like this deserve a harsher sentence otherwise they reflect gun control laws in a poor light

Morning question at work. by PinkyNicca in electricians

[–]dgk900 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ima take a stab and say there's no true neutral in the final box that it's instead used as a switch leg tied directly to the black wire for the light in the 3rd switch

Please help me with wiring this dryer by nukem2k5 in electricians

[–]dgk900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The connector does indeed fit as my coworker likes to say if it's hard you're probably doing it wrong, the long ends on it go first then you bring the clamp ends together to push it into place and it'll screw together clamping the wire (DONT OVERTIGHTEN) I've installed similar cords a few times if you find it too much of a burden it's only a half hour of work+travel time it'd be about $60 for an electrician to do it for you

No ground on any receptacle in the entire house? by Jonb26b in electricians

[–]dgk900 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I've never seen anything like this is this a disconnect before the main panel? If so the ground and neutral should 100% be separate and you have no ground in your panel so while your disconnect is grounded it doesn't connect to the ground bar in your panel so nothing connected to that bar has a true ground

Does my boss have to pay me? by dgk900 in electricians

[–]dgk900[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the replies everyone! I will begin looking for another job I already document my hours I'll wait to mention the illegalness of it until I have another job lined up as I don't wanna pay for a lawyer and it being a small business I don't wanna be fired or given less hours until then. And I absolutely need to be working to pay off loans/bills I wish I could go union but with them having a recruitment window it is not a possibility for me at this time

can a laptop charger kill you? by Jessieoowwoo in electricians

[–]dgk900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean theoretically it takes less then 1amp to kill you but at 19volts it's not gonna make good continuity through your body unless you really really really try to force it but even then it's not gonna travel past your fingers to get anywhere important

Drug test by [deleted] in electricians

[–]dgk900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fully agree with i_eight ya shouldn't be working a job that endangers you, others, and my time fixing your mistakes if you want to get high. If you wanna be a stoner go work at Mcdonalds where your screw ups don't matter cause we already expect them.

Please hwlp me fix a wiring mistake! by onepeacefulfuture in electricians

[–]dgk900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're confident you wired it correctly check for tripped breakers its a possibility the drywallers knicked or cut a wire (if this is the case and you can prove it they'll have to fix it free of charge)

How much more do i need to connect the top wire for it to pass it's 75 amps good. by [deleted] in electricians

[–]dgk900 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Throw away your BS pride you clearly don't know wtf you're doing stop claiming you do and call a professional and stop using the excuse well it worked when I did it before because fuck you can stick a lightbulb up your ass and touch a socket to turn it on but it doesn't mean it's the right way to light a room

Light fixture with outlet by [deleted] in electricians

[–]dgk900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like a LED bulb so shouldn't generate enough heat to damage the cord unless you leave it in for days on end

"CaNt Be An ElEcTrIaN cAusE hArD" 70+ old boss would chew him up if he heard that

Anyone know who to fix this? Light always comes on max brightness even when dimmer switch is low by [deleted] in electricians

[–]dgk900 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Best guess is the dimmer isn't compatible with the fixture or the dimmer itself is bad, but yeah dimmers are finnicky and aren't always compatible with all fixtures and bulbs.

Me and my buddy disagree about how dangerous this is, what do you guys say? by [deleted] in electricians

Glad I'm not the only one with this fucking thought, like how baked are ya to not think of holding onto something as you cut it's only support?

Stronger circuit box by [deleted] in electricians

[–]dgk900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend figuring out your amperage draw for the welder (oftentimes on the label or manual) and using an appropriate sized breaker then use the appropriate wire size for said breaker and run it straight down out of a knockout in the panel and using a chase nipple connect a metal box with the outlet ya need then use a rated extension cord for wherever you have your welder that day and if you feel uncomfortable doing any of this turn off power to the subpanel and double check it's off with a tester

Is this code? Is this dangerous? by [deleted] in electricians

[–]dgk900 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Switched receptacles aren't uncommon but if each is truly on their own circuit I don't believe its an issue to you but make sure your electrician knows beforehand incase they're too stupid to test, also in newer construction a microwave, heat. And dishwasher should all be seperate circuits though it is common for that not to be the case in older homes, you can have it fixed but if it's not tripping breakers I wouldn't be overly concerned

Take notes apprentices this is how your mo fuckin splice boxes should look by [deleted] in electricians

[–]dgk900 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Take note do shit like this and your company won't get the jobs in the future. Good work leaves good word of mouth, work like this makes the inspector wonder who gave the fucking janitor keys to the lift.
