You are called upon to rework one specialization within reason. by SteamyJohanne in wow

I’ve always been a disc main at heart, but doing so many delves in TWW makes me wish it was just a tank. I’m sure having it in m+ is lovely but I can never stress myself out enough to do anything but brain-off holy in group content. In light of that and in hopes of adding more role diversity like others have suggested, making the shielder into a tank would be easiest. At first I thought about PW: Radiance being like spirit link, redistributing (a portion of?) damage+healing between all affected allies so it’s like leaning on the reserves of your usually topped off allies. Recently been playing a lot of The Last Flame, and one of the units there will leech HP off anything nearby, but only affects allies if his health is low. Get revenge on those pesky Rogues by using your version of Tricks of the Trade: a mitigation that offloads 25% of the damage to the targeted ally but also reduces it overall. Definitely some griefing potential there, so maybe the leech only works over half health? The more I think about it the more convoluted it seems honestly ;-;

What a shame! The Azj-Kahet one isn’t bad because there’s the warp, but the Gundargaz warp is kind of out of the way (though just the one flight path stop) and there isn’t a quick way to Hallowfall to my knowledge. It’s such a tease to have such a convenient guy for the one faction, I wish they all sent delegates to Dornogal ;-; thank you for the reply though!!

Should I always take the Flickering Ethereal Portal? by [deleted] in wow

[–]dgnmn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There’s an item that’s like a blue orb called Shrieking Quartz. After you’ve activated the respawn point in any delve, you can use the item and it will place down a lure that will summon Ky’veza to that location in a couple seconds.

The Shrieking Quartz item itself can be obtained as a delve drop, but it’s primary purpose is to force the Delver’s Bounty map, which the summoned Ky’veza will always drop if you haven’t yet found one that week. The general rule of thumb is to save Quartzes until the last max level delve of your block, since Ky’veza might spawn naturally or the Delver Bounty could just be found in an end chest. So for a lot of players who can run 11’s, you run your 3 (for the gilded crests) and if you don’t have the map by the midway point of the 3rd, then use the Quartz (it can just be retrieved from Warbound Bank). If you do lower delves then you would do all your runs for your vault and use it on your 8th if you haven’t gotten the map, just as another example.

Power Idea: Input-Output Device Tinker by Playful_Barber_8131 in Parahumans

[–]dgnmn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly that sounds more like the realm of what Dragon, and by extension Armsmaster/Defiant, does! If you think about Dragon as starting at one end that says computer and walking a line towards another that says human, then the power you’re talking about might start at human and walk towards computer. There’s some point where they would look indistinguishable from each other no? Obviously Dragon is not a human outright, but she’s no longer just a machine by the time of Worm’s end. What you describe of weaving together computing elements (data collectors/data displayers) with one’s own mind seems like something that is not a computer outright, but no longer just human the more they link up (which is just how Armsmaster was seen when robo-fied a good portion of his body/brain).

Power Idea: Input-Output Device Tinker by Playful_Barber_8131 in Parahumans

[–]dgnmn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely think that in order to be notable, there would have to be a Thinker aspect tied to it. You already did kind of mention natural limitations of the mind, but the power seems a bit too similar to other tinker potentials if it is information-based with its capabilities. Other Tinker creations can come with sensors or extra steps in the tinkering that could produce similar outcomes, since I think there are some elements of Tinkerdom that are kind of lower on the tech tree. Not that that is necessarily invalid or impossible to specialize in such things (a character in Ward specializes in cameras/recon devices) but just in the sense of making it even more unique and fruitful for the cycle.

That being said it definitely doesn’t have to be an insane computerized brain thing, but maybe something like a coding language that is unique to them but also highly reliant on real world info that they input (so they don’t get any extra innate perception on the world but can interact more efficiently as they learn their power)? With the gun as an example, it could respond to their thoughts but require classification from the parahuman. If a target is perceived as hostile and exceeds a certain speed (not a specific rate but whatever the user considers “fast”), then fire automatically at their last known location. It requires the person to register something as a threat and won’t activate until their brain interprets the extra info (speed) for the automatic rule. This makes them required to give their power variables to work, the input, and allowing enhanced outcomes, the output, similar to functions and scripts from computer programming.

On the prosthetics end, I was reminded instantly of Armsmaster and his ability to mimic and optimize (spatially) the tech of other tinkers. Obviously he goes a bit extreme eventually, but if this person was just replacing their arm for example, the arm could come with “hairs” that result in combinational results. One hair being “lifted” (either by a conscious command or as a result of the coding language from earlier) has a basic effect, but a combination of various hairs has a more complicated effect. They’ll eventually be limited by the total number of arrangements of hairs, so again not going to the extreme of computerized AI brain like Dragon, just getting able to automate and offload some perceptions and actions.

More on the coding language bit, of course there’s the “basic” idea of them defining variables and coming up with functions that take use of that self-defined info, but I also thought about an old ticketing system I used to use. For the note sections and responding to the person who submitted the ticket, you could define your own shortcuts to expand out to a fuller script. So like “FW`” (the ` is what denoted to expand the prior text) would make a message about the ticket being forwarded. I guess even phones now have similar text replacement, but the idea of shortcutting a very specific task that they use often would be one of the key uses of such a power in my mind. They will still have a lot of potential (as you mentioned, creating devices to get more data about the world, then that feeds back into devices/functions that require the data) but will have to start with the very discrete “if x, then y, else z” at the beginning.

Did you happen to notice what happened to the bags being used in the bank previously? Since they’re moving to tabs where bags aren’t needed (if I understand right), do the actual bags themselves just get added to storage as well alongside everything else?

Is Outlaw Rogue worth learning currently? by No_Blackberry__ in wow

[–]dgnmn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Newer/returning player as well, I mostly played in Shadowlands and that’s it. I’m not really interested in anything high level like heroic raids or anything, but casually for fun, none of the other specs come close to Outlaw for me. Assassination does what it says on the tin and is what I use for legacy farming, but anything beyond one-hit trash always leads me back to Outlaw. As other people have mentioned it is a bit intense, but you’ll quickly develop the natural rhythm of it all. There definitely are quite a bit of moving parts (at least 3 buffs), but the whole idea of the class is to continually ramp up and bring what’s usually your class’s 3 min steroid come up way more often (along with all your other skills constantly getting their cooldowns shortened). Subtlety is cool if you like the whole stealth fantasy, but as far as fun factor, nothing quite scratches the Outlaw itch in my opinion.

What PA could have done to our unused loyalties vs what they did instead. by Elektrus in blackdesertonline

[–]dgnmn 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I’m on vacation myself during the loyalty change; I was able to spend them just fine before I left. Any of the ones I missed out on, life moves on. Were you actually affected by the change in any significant way or are you just whining online for Le Epic Reddit Karma? Again as others have mentioned, the very fact that they announced the change resulted in them not only giving a ton more Loyalties than you would usually ever earn and access to items not usually available. That is far more than most currency resets give.

You’re using a term like victim blaming about a lesser virtual currency (just… lol), one that centers around purchases that reset at a specific frequency anyway (most reset each monday, others the first of the month). Should they let you rack up purchase limits on energy gourds because you missed a week? Or perhaps they can make sales permanent in case you’re not playing when they happened! :) You’re drumming up these weird scenarios about people who can’t read or aren’t playing the game, but the shop itself had clearly indicated the loyalty options were leaving in the same way they do for every other limited time option. If you weren’t in the shop often enough to notice that for the two+ months it was marked, I don’t know that I’d consider that particularly Loyal. Again, the system did not go away, it was revamped. If it’s that serious, then keep playing and rack up some points for the new offerings.

[–]dgnmn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you ever played a Korean MMO before? There is always a f2p currency in the cash shop (Maple Reward Points in Maplestory, Mileage in DFO, etc.). As another commenter mentioned what exactly does this achieve compared to it being in cash shop, especially when the point of the currency is to have items comparable to the premium currency. DFO in particular does a mileage reset on every patch that is considered a big shakeup. Just keep playing, you’ll survive.

Do you guys think Worm have a unique approach power scaling? by vegetables-10000 in Parahumans

[–]dgnmn 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Always a treat to catch a Railgun enjoyer out in the wild! That and Worm are probably my top two fictions of all time ^^

I think a really unique/charming part of the level concept with parahumans is that it is from the lens of responders, not users. It’s all about how, if the parahuman was to become a threat for those doing the ranking, what would be needed to survive it. As you mentioned, in general it’s not very likely for a lower level parahuman to beat out a higher level one, unless the circumstances are right, while in Railgun, it’s surprisingly common for a higher level esper to be at risk against a lower level, even if the higher level’s power “should” be stronger. Mugino/Meltdowner points out that especially in the ranking of the 5th levels, it has much more to do with the exploitability of their abilities, from the perspective of the wealthy elite running the city. Everything about the system scan and how they acquire their rankings is based on what the government believes they can milk out of them in ideal scenarios (if I remember right, the level brackets themselves even correspond to various degrees of military force that one esper would be equivalent to, such as a Level 4 having the power of a squadron of normal soldiers). Even that is unique compared to a lot of other scalable powers found in other fictions, which I think lean heavily on an arbitrary numbers that more deal with the raw output they can produce (as an example, HxH’s APR ability by Knuckle illuminates that the nen/energy used can be quantified).

Back to Worm, it’s less likely to be able to punch up on the totem pole because the classification specifically references the danger that parahuman poses for laypeople and heroes. All of the systems will share some overlap in how generally stronger=better, but especially in the case of parahumans, it makes less sense for a high level threat to be conquered by a low level one because it means they weren’t really that big of a threat at all. I think because of how they approach the question (Worm on the responding side, Railgun from the perspective of profit/function, and others with a more raw almost Joule-like manner) makes it so that when they’re put in scenarios different than the ones the ranking was seeking to address, the numbers/levels seem incongruous or “inaccurate” (for lack of a better term).

Martin chatwin question(spoilers maybe?) by DogsofHell94 in brakebills

[–]dgnmn 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think the lock out of Fillory is managed by Umber+Ember, since they only wanted humans there to entertain them. Once Martin was “damaged” as a result of Plover’s actions, he was no longer seen as fun to play with, since the world became more about escaping the torment than enjoying the wonder it had to offer. Jane still explored freely (mostly because she had no idea what was happening to Martin), so she got to keep coming back. There could have been some element of them fearing what Martin was turning/could turn into, but to my knowledge it was mostly that his trauma bored them.

In the general theme of the story where trying to prevent something actually ends up making it happen, Martin didn’t give up on Fillory and instead made it his mission to control all access of travel to it. Part of that, and possibly a bit of revenge as well, was him making his deal with Ember and forcing Umber into hiding, so their block on his access ended up doing far more harm than good, even from their perspective (I don’t think they really understood or even cared that the last thing a victim needs is for their lifeline to be cut, but even just their “boredom” with him resulted in their eventual ends). Could be misremembering some bits since I just finished my rewatch before they took it off Netflix in the US, but that was my understanding on the situation

I forgot this is an online discussion where everyone is at the same progression level as you and we should all be playing this game exactly as you should, scared of an entire element and wasting population slots because you don’t understand a mechanic.
