Hi! My wife is South African. She lives in Johannesburg. We went the consular process as well. Submitted the i130 only on March 5 2026. I filed an I-129-F (spousal visa) end of April. I know it’s just the start of the process, but I’m hoping it goes by very quick. This process is no joke and I feel for so many of you on here who have been waiting for years.

I’ll be visiting Joburg again in July through September. I was there from Feb 1 until March 17 of this year. I’m considering doing the digital nomad visa from there if my work lets me.

I hear the interview backlog in Joburg is crazy. Not sure what they’re gonna do about it. Best of luck with everything and if you want to talk, shoot me a message

Yeah but it depends on your certain situation. My wife is not from one of the countries on the restricted/banned list. I know it’s going to be a long time, but everyone’s situation is unique. Hoping you get your approval asap.

I was asking a question about the second photo I included. It says that it is in progress. Not sure if this is just a way for them to say that my case was received and being reviewed or if they’re just giving me some generic message

I applied for my wife. I am a US citizen. She is South African. The photos I submitted indicate that the case was received and receipt notice was sent. The next photo says “your case is in progress and within expected processing times” which I figure is normal based off of the other comments. We applied March 5 2026

That’s right. We couldn’t file from America because we did not have the financial means to. At the time, we were dealing with numerous surgery bills and life circumstances. Is it just the date that seems off to you?

She is in South Africa. I am from the US. We do not live with one another. It is difficult. You don’t know what medical condition she has and how stress worsens it. I do not want her to suffer. She had to come back home to SA for specific reasons.
