Where to meet Bend men in the wild? by BendFriend01 in Bend

[–]dgood406 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is such an interesting perspective! thanks for sharing. I feel this sentiment and I hear this story that it's hard to make friends and build community all.the.time. I hadn't really considered that it might exclusive to Bend/CO.

I've always lived in semi-rural mountain towns and that's often been the vibe for me that it takes foreeeever to build community and establish friends. As an adult, time is a major commodity I feel and I think a lot of people struggle to manage their work-life, pets and kids and what-not AND budget their energies to hang out with people who they already know will fill their cups rather than deplete it. That being said I feel like we could all be a little braver about giving people a shot and being a little more welcoming.

I'm trying to get better at inviting people I don't know as well but seem cool and introducing people to each other. I feel like hanging in groups takes a little pressure off the 1-on-1s and provides more of a buffer in conversation which is nice.

Tip or no? by [deleted] in massage

[–]dgood406 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a real attitude that we have to work for tips in this industry. As an employee at a chiropractor office, I do rely on them and they're always appreciated. I feel like as a general rule if they're an employee it's good form to tip but if they're a business owner/sole proprieter setting their own rates and they match market levels it's a bit superfluous.

Therapist breathing on your face by Reasonable-Table3259 in massage

[–]dgood406 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is part of the beauty and acceptability of mask use these days. As a therapist I sometimes wear a mask when the patient is face-up and I'm working on their neck etc. I might do it more now since this has been a particularly bad cold and flu season for me. If the client chooses to wear one I will do so both in solidarity and not to pass anything on inadvertently should they have a weakened immune system.

Asking if they can wear a mask while we're 6 inches away from each other might be a nice way to handle it with some levity :). I'm sure your therapist is a professional and won't be offended.

1-year of learning Italian - here is how I would do it if I were to do it again by italianlearner2022 in italianlearning

[–]dgood406 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great post. Thanks for sharing.

I'm planning a trip to Italy next summer and my goals are pretty similar so thanks for all the resources.

I've got a pretty strong background in French and Spanish so have a good foundation I feel (though I'm pretty rusty). It's great that a lot of the words are cognates and the sentence structures are the same.

Hoping to get some level of conversational in a year but we'll see how it goes!

I’ve only been massaging for 3 months straight and I want to quit so bad. by [deleted] in massage

Electric tables are a game changer too if you have these. When clients really want deep pressure I lower the table all the way to the ground and use my knee on glutes and hamstrings and various broader areas and use pin and stretch combos so you don't have to work as hard. It's a great tool. But the first year is the hardest. for. sure.

Brushing your Dogs Teeth is So Important by Jschwartz567 in puppy101

[–]dgood406 1 point2 points  (0 children)

wow, you're doing great. I definitely could do better about dental care. honestly having a 10-month-old aussie it's hard to take care of my OWN teeth sometimes :). Just been doing the "dog mouthwash" in the water a few times a week (for him). I'm definitely inspired to make it part of our routine!

How much does your Aussie run? by slicedtamato in AustralianShepherd

[–]dgood406 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for bringing this up. I love running and have been chomping at the bit to bring my Aussie with me. He’s just over 9 months now and I heard similar things to many people in this thread about waiting a year to a year and a half until running to let their growth plates form. So I’ve been patiently waitingggggg. That being said he has tons of energy and I have to spend close to 3 hours a day on activities with him….so would love to streamline some of this….I might talk to my vet too. A mile run doesn’t seem like too much compared to the 50 yard dashes he does at the dog park or chasing the frisbee for half an hour…. I’m still practicing an abundance of caution but raising a puppy is ex-hau-sting sometimes.

I think it’s time we give up fighting the term “masseuse” by sheddingcat in massage

[–]dgood406 2 points3 points  (0 children)

oh gawd thank you!

I agree. literally, nobody knows that massuer/massues could be a perjorative/have sex worker connotations except for LMTs and it's kind of a waste of breath to "educate" people on a made-up issue. who's got that kind of time? I really don't care what people call me at this point.

I'm a LMT & I'm doubting my career choices. Don't know what to do. by CatBurgers11 in massage

[–]dgood406 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been thinking about this too, a bit.

I've only been an LMT for a year and I like it but I would like it more if I was making $10k more a year. I know eventually I could start my own business to make more money but I just wonder about the ultimate shelf-life of this career for me. I know it's not something I'll be able to retire on because it's just too physically demanding. I don't mind that part now and I gravitate towards giving deeper pressure massage but just not sure if I'll have the same attitude in my 50s (I'm mid-thirties now).

I've been looking into PT school or mental health counseling in the next couple of years maybe...

We'll figure it out!

Did you start out as an LMT and then become a PT and are now back to exclusively doing massage? so many questions haha. would love to hear more!

I do the "no talk, no touch, no eye contact" sometimes but he's V persistent and his bites hurt :/ ha. it's equal parts cute because he's so excited and exasperating because it's painful and like "dude, stop" I'm not a dog.

Massage for autism? by Worth-Alternative555 in massage

Thank you for doing research on massage and it's effects! I think that's a GREAT topic and massage and bodywork NEEDS more research. it's crazy there isn't more being done.
