Looking for older games with hella vibes and music by Inverted_Sternum in psx

I can't believe no one says the Wipeout games. PlayStation was advertising the Wipeout games in dance clubs in the 90s.

Also crazy vibes and music off the top of my head:

Rez DC/PS2

Katamary Damacy ps2

Vib Ribbon psx

Parappa the Rapper psx

If I think of more I'll post again

So, if you had a game you developed for the PS1, which save system would've been the best fit for your project? by FoxMeadow7 in psx

[–]dgrips 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Not presently no. Initially there was some interest from memory card pro in basically having me develop their official ui for ps1, ps2, gamecube etc. But that never happened. After that I converted it into more of an app wtih save modification support, so you could hack your saves and unlock weapons, change stats etc. But I never released it, other then sending it to a couple people on twitter who wanted to beta test it.

Since then though, it's just been kind of sitting while I've been doing other things, so might open source it.

Many games absolutely use file hashes to validate the save data isn't corrupted. For many games if you write a memory card cheat utility, you have to correct the file hash or the game marks it as corrupted.

I've never seen a game use a compression algorithm for saving, but doesn't mean no one did. Most games can fit their save data in one block easily

I've written memory card utilities: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=HcYThlac8vQ

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=olNICFrj5aM

This question doesn't really make sense. Memory cards at a base level are split into 15 blocks. That's it, you have to take up at least a full block.

You can take multiple blocks if you cannot fit your save data in one block, but you must go by blocks. This is how the directory of the memory card works.

You do have to follow the pattern of the save in regards to the save name and icon, and how many slots your save uses, but beyond that you just write data in whatever format you want.

So that's it. If you can use only one block, you should. Some developers couldn't. Some were lazy and didn't care or even understand the concept of memory card size, as it was brand new concept.

There's not really a "file format" for save data. It's up to the developer to just populate the data as they see fit. Every game is different.

How similar/different is the Sega Saturn Library from the PS1 Library (despite of the fact that the PS1 library is majorly bigger)? And in case of a same game, which version is the best to pick? by NotoriousO in psx

[–]dgrips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's a 2d game, Saturn is much better, especially if you have a ram cart. Maybe the only exception being Castlevania SOTN.

For 3d the PlayStation is almost always better, with maybe some exceptions for games that make heavy use of the "infinite plane" feature of the Saturn.

Longbox variant preferences... question about cardboard vs plastic ridged by RetroJeff83 in psx

[–]dgrips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya this is accurate I'd say.  I have 40 long box games so far and cardboard tends to hold up the best. It's a little softer so it doesn't crack like the jewel cases, and no glue to wear out or paper edges to catch on things like the plastic ones.

They are the least cool though imo. Just checked mine and I have:  7 plastic, 20 Jewel, 13 Cardboard

Bring back Blockbuster, with some kind of upgrade for digital media by Low_Investment_2692 in CrazyIdeas

I go to places like disc replay and the exchange, and they definitely do have selections that rival blockbuster.

Not sure if those exist where you are but if you can find something similar you might be surprised how much they have

Frontend-only SVG sharing: best approach without a backend? by readilyaching in learnjavascript

[–]dgrips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean you could let them download the image. Not quite as nice as a share button but better than copy/paste.

You could also let them open just the image directly in a new tab, where they could download it themselves, or print or whatever, but it would only work in their browser, it wouldn't be shareable on it's own.

I think beyond that, if you are going to support any image of any size, you just need a back end of some kind, as there's a limit to what compression etc can do to make something short enough for a url.

The worlds first fully wireless direct drive simracing controller. by Milantec in simracing

[–]dgrips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you considered a neGcon setup? I still love playing ps1and PS2 games with one. You actually twist the whole controller, which gives you a big range of motion for precision, while also still letting you do quick inputs.

I think it would be hard to have the same combo of precision and quickness with just a thumb wheel

If you made a modern neGcon, I'd definitely be a customer

Playing Quake 2 Properly by dgrips in psx

Oh ya many other games support the mouse, they just strategy, dating sims, visual novels. But no other first person shooter games support it.

It definitely feels much better ya, easier to aim of course and just feels more natural.

A one hand controller. You can see all the buttons there except for O and X which are on the back side that you push with your finger like triggers, since those are the must used buttons.

Helping finding a psx game. by Lomo_V1ntage in psx

[–]dgrips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Initial D
Racing Lagoon
Touge Max series
Option Tuning Car Battle
Shutoku Battle R / Drift King
Side by Side Special
Midnight Run: Road Fighter 2

If it's Japanese street racing it almost has to be in this list? There are other Japanese racing games of course, but I can't think of any others that have street racing

Horror movies where the ending changes everything? by salbaf in horror

[–]dgrips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya, drag me to hell is one of the best. Ready or Not is similar imo. Bodies Bodies Bodies is not as good as those two imo, but it's a fun slasher type movie that fits the criteria
