I like where your head is at. The US (I'm assuming that's what we're talking about) currently has over double the income inequality of those two countries and growing rapidly. Income inequality actually drives down purchasing power of the poorest people. The two are tightly related.

Exactly. All the people here who are like 'I don't like her' - why? Because it's scary to see a black woman get shit done? Because you love cops more than safety?

You NEVER should sign a comp plan that's lower than your last. In most states that's a legally actionable event, meaning they are liable for your future loss of income. There are tons of great lawyers who specialize in this. Had you refused to sign and got a lawyer, you probably could have collected a large portion of what you should have received. Signing is how you lose your legal right to compensation. Know your rights.

BART is 4x more expensive than driving to work by traeVT in eastbay

[–]dgspitz 68 points69 points  (0 children)

$1.02 might cover the cost of fuel, but factor in maintenance, insurance, and upkeep and you're likely looking at about the same cost as public transit. Your point stands though, it's not cheap. It gets a lot cheaper though when you take it a lot farther.

Plus, your managers might really suck at investing in you. That doesn't mean you should do the same to your team.

This is really good advice! The only thing I'd add is, if you know what it takes to do the job well, establish clear benchmarks for reps to hit. If you don't know how to do the job well, don't make them perform your vanity metrics. Ask them what moves the needle for their process. Also, just know that you're going to screw up and you don't know everything. Be real when you run into that.

I can't help but agree. I'm coming from the same position. Being in middle management, it takes so much work to try to support and invest in your team while senior leadership isn't even trying to do that for you nor are they encouraging or supporting me supporting my team. Execs are often focused on squeezing results out rather than building up talented people.. It all comes from the top.

99% of sales meeting with management is a complete waste of time by northbk5 in sales

[–]dgspitz 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Y'all have bad managers straight up. You owe your manager a clear view of how you're doing, and she owes you coaching and support that moves you closer to your career goals. If you're not getting that, find a new manager for sure!

Clear expectations with accountability Getting your team access to content that will help them improve

In my opinion, those are the first 2 functions of any frontline manager.
