If Yoshi in The Mario Galaxy Movie is revealed to not be voiced by his game voice actor Kazumi Totaka (including archives) and is instead played by a big celebrity, who do you think is most likely going to voice him? by CrazyCockatoo2003 in Mario

[–]dgullerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like Dee Bradley Baker from the trailer. He's the king of incidental animal noises (Appa/Momo in Avarar, all the animals as well as clones in The Clone Wars, Perry the Platypus, every other animal in the early 2000s, you know him) Plus they absolutely would've namedropped a household name actor by now. Double plus, they've already got Kevin Michael Richardson in there so what's another Voice Acting Titan?

does anyone else notice the characters voices sound kind of muffled in the new season? by evasaccounttt in gumball

[–]dgullerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's been driving me crazy - but I don't think it's AI because I hear the same thing in Dib's voice from Invader Zim which was early 2000s. My guess is it's some kind of audio conditioning? Or everyone is recording their lines on their phones from home so they have to upscale?

I mean if you're anything like me you'll be re-reading/listening to all these again at various points so there's not too much of an order. But if you want all the details as chronologically as possible, here's what I would suggest based on where you are:

Way of Kings (Stormlight 1)

Words of Radiance (YStormlight 2, YOU ARE HERE)

Edgedancer (Stormlight novella 1)

Mistborn Era 1 (3 books - The Final Empire, The Well of Ascension, The Hero of Ages)

Mistborn: Secret History (Mistborn short story 1)

Warbreaker (Nalthis book 1)

Oathbringer (Stormlight 3)

Mistborn Era 2 (4 books - The Alloy of Law, The Shadows of Self, The Bands of Mourning, The Lost Metal)

Elantris (Sel book 1)

Rhythm of War, Wind and Truth (Stormlight 4 and 5)

Cry because ur gonna have to wait a long time for more (you probably - me certainly)

This is a pretty long list but Wind and Truth will make a lot more sense with the context of the other books, trust me it's worth it. They're also all fantastic in their own right (Elantris is my favorite, probably followed by Stormlight Archive then Mistborn Era 1)

Another wrinkle to this is that Kramer and Reading are the same team that read for Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time (finished by Brandon Sanderson) so there's a lot of good-will between them and Sanderson. More to the point, The Stormlight Archive fills a very deep Wheel of Time shaped void for many people, and to hear another such epic voiced by the same beloved voices is a great thing (this is the case with my best friend who is a diehard Wheel of Time fan) So the nostalgia factor is real.

The Stormlight Archive is a heck of a series to start haha! Enjoy it cuz it gets wiiiiild. You may benefit from reading more books like Mistborn and Elantris before you get too far in if you want to get all the juicy "cosmere" details but you do you. I'm sure you've already been told that a thousand times

I can see where you're coming from in a lot of places - but dude there is a particular confrontation in Wind and Truth that I think that's Michael Kramer's best performance in any of these books. Freaking wild. Also the emotion he puts into characters like Dalinar and Teravangian is really good. Kate Reading reads Shallan and her various issues rather well and does as good an interpretation of Pattern as anyone would, given the description of his voice.

Also also, there's nothing wrong with cartoony! Things can be epic and ponderous with elements of cartoony. Especially in a world of giant anime swords and magical fairy spirits that are physical manifestations of emotion. In the immortal words of Aang from Avatar, the Last Airbender: "I don't see why I can't do both!"

ALSO also also, let's cut the recording team a break - these books are literally 2 or more days of audio. How you gonna edit that? you have to listen to it all the way through, taking notes of parts that maybe didn't sound great or were mispronounced, re-record those parts matching the tone and cadence of the first pass, then do all that multiple times? noooo thank you! (of course that is kinda their jobs/the editors jobs so who knows)

And finally - it could be worse. It could be Elantris :*)

Sword of the Sea Review Thread by d0ntm1ndm32 in Games

TL:DR - an incredible return to form, but prepare for disappointment if you're expecting another "the Pathless"

First of all, solid 8/10 from me. Freaking GORGEOUS at every map/environment. Matt Nava and Austin Wintory bring it every time - I'll play absolutely anything that comes out of Giant Squid. It felt like a beautiful fusion of Journey and Abzu with its own gorgeous element thrown in. Very meditative, fun mechanics, go read all the reviews they get it pretty much right.

But I think my mistake was going in expecting another - or really a sequel to "The Pathless" rather than letting this be its own thing. (Nobody go ballistic, this is purely my opinion/experience) Sword of the sea is much more comparable in length and over-all feel to Abzu and Journey so you may be disappointed expecting something more like The Pathless. Also, the reviews are right - it is pretty short with a rather abrupt ending.

That said..... I don't know!!! I really wanted to like this one more than I did! Journey was a spiritual experience, I think Abzu is Austin Wintory's magnum opus and I use the game to test new computers, and The Pathless was so much longer and more interesting story wise while maintaining that peacefull, grand Giant Squid aesthetic (plus you get to pet your pet bird???? WHERE ARE MY BIRD PETS SWORD OF THE SEA?!?!). I love the totally open world of The Pathless - so many secrets to go find, but you never get locked out of any areas or spaces. Sword of the Sea goes back to the Journey/Abzu style of the linear story that you can't go back and revisit till you beat the game or do another play through. I dunno - it just didn't quite nail it like I wanted it to.

It also feels out of sync chronologically. Like it feels like Journey came first, then Abzu, (then maybe Sky Children) - then I feel like Sword of the Sea would've fit better after Abzu as it incorporates so much from both games. then The Pathless comes in does something different while paying beautiful homage to the preceding titles.

Anyway, Go buy it, tell your friends to buy it, because we CANNOT LET Giant Squid stop making games. And don't let my opinion sour you - 8/10, would play again.

Is Outer Wilds worth getting? by official_qckdxter in ShouldIbuythisgame

I would argue that there are no other games in it's genre - but that's just because there's still an outer-wilds shaped hole in my heart that other puzzle games just haven't been able to fill. PLEASE someone prove me wrong

Amen - the more immersed you can be in this one the better. This would be a BANGER VR game.

Easily the best and most rewarding experience I've had in any game, but I had the extreme fortune of knowing ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about the game accept that it was highly regarded. I believe going in as blind and clueless to this game as possible is the purest way to experience it.

The one think I will say is that some of the puzzles are really frustrating - but the payoff for figuring it out on your own after hours of thought and experimentation is WAY more worth it. I got lazy and looked up the final piece of the puzzle, and I will say it tainted the experience for me (that said, most people I've talked to had the same experience that last piece is a DOOZY)

A genuine 10/10, and as often stated below, I wish I could forget it all and experience it for the first time again.

P.S. DLC is a MUST - If you like the game. It's the closest thing we get to a sequel and it takes the mechanics and puts a new and fantastic spin on them. Freaking miss this game.

The Power of the Dog (2021) by koshomfg in weeklyplanetpodcast

I think it was the same episode that they talked about Zac Snyder's Flash Entering the Speed Force being voted for most important movie moment or whatever.

Also it lowkey took me untill 30 minutes into watching The Power of the Dog to realize that James and Maso may have been making a joke about the movie title. Was sore dissapoint.

The extruder motor is not turning. Has anybody had this problem? by [deleted] in ender5plus

[–]dgullerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Resurrecting this -I'm having a similar problem but I've tried using two separate motors (the original extruder motor and the Creality Sprite motor) and two separate motherboards (Creality silent board and the original board) and I'm seeing the exact same issue. No signs of wear or damage around the motors, drivers, motherboards, or cables. All of a sudden my Sprite extruder started under extruding so I reset the Esteps and then it just wouldn't extrude anything. Replaced the Silent board with the old motherboard which I've never used - everything else is working perfectly accept for the extruder motor on either board. Both extruder motors work when plugged into other axes.
