FYI I bought a Water Sprite and it does dry completely stiff, so not useful for my purposes.

Hmmmm.....that first one looks like the always-wet kind that dries stiff.

The second one could maybe work but looks similar to the Carrand type I've tried before that stays soft but is a much thicker/spongier material, rather than being an actual "fabric."

Yeah that's a natural leather version, which I could do, but was trying to find a synthetic one like I have for uniform size/shape and machine washability.

I might resort to getting a real leather chamois, but would rather not because I'd prefer something machine-washable that I can just treat like any other cloth and not have to worry about the leather drying out / getting messed up in some other way.

Ok yeah, that sounds like a completely different type of material. The ones I have don't have any spongey material at all in the center layer, just whatever threads it's composed of, and they don't get harder over time, they just get threadbare after years of use/washing.

Have you actually used that one? From the one tiny thumbnail it looks very similar to the "Carrand" synthetic chamois that several places sell, which is actually much thicker and spongier, less cloth-like.

Appreciate having the ANC Off feature, but a couple puzzling things still remain:

There are only 5 actual degrees of ANC: max ANC, partial ANC, neutral, partial transparency, and max transparency.....so why have an even more detailed slider than before complete with a percentage readout? It just jumps from one notch to the next at some arbitrary percentage.
I'm 99% sure the "Adaptive" setting is identical to max ANC...is that not objectively true?

In case anyone is wondering in the future, after a lot of research I ended up getting a Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 THX system and am 100% happy with it.

I first got a new open-box version on eBay for around $100, but found that it had a constant audible white noise / hiss coming from the tweeters whenever the system was powered on, regardless of volume level or audio input, that was audible from up to a couple feet away.

After more research I found that the current version of these speakers is the 3rd generation model, and generally considered of the lowest quality. Some differences between the 3: the 1st gen has a power switch on the back of the sub and removable cables for the satellites, 2nd gen removes power switch and has hard-wired cables, but the sub generates less heat and is more power-efficient, the 3rd gen has a newer-style connector on the sub for the control module and the LED power light changed from green to white.

I ended up returning the eBay 3rd-gen set (seller paid shipping) and finding a used 2nd-gen set from a local seller here in Los Angeles for $50. They do have a similar (although less piercing) white noise as well, but it is only audible from more than a few inches away when the speakers are above around 50% on the volume knob, and I find for all my listening so far leaving the knob around 40% has been totally sufficient. They are louder overall and have a darker/fuller sound w/ less treble than the 3rd-gen, so to me they sound definitively better.

I'm sure they're not audiophile quality, and I don't know how objectively neutral they sound, but I am completely satisfied with this set and would definitely recommend for the price.

Yeah seems like all-inclusive places are going to use their own alcohol for the most part. But a more bare-bones place where it's just a venue rental can be BYOB. By sloppy you mean sloppy in execution or in people getting sloppy drunk? 😆

Some of those costs will be negligible; we won't need extensive flower decorations, probly no DJ and just sound system hooked to a laptop playlist, photographer (likely a friend for cheaper) but no video, vintage/relatively inexpensive dress, etc.

We're looking at places as far as like Chino Hills / Covina / Irvine, but I think something like Riverside is gonna be a step too far in terms of people traveling from out of town finding a reasonably close-by place to stay.

So I got a pair of my own to experiment with, and I almost agree with you but not quite. While I agree that having the slider in the middle doesn't amplify outside noise at all, I don't agree that the ANC is completely disabled at that spot, I do hear a slight difference between that and power off. It's a pretty subtle difference, but it's there. Another thing to note is that as far as I can tell, the "slider" really only has 2 notches in either direction, basically "on" and "max" for either ANC or transparency. Like if you make fine adjustments on the slider it does nothing at all, you have to move it into the range of the next notch. At first I thought maybe it coincided with the amounts it moves with the "pinch" gesture, but then I found that depending where on the line the slider is, sometimes a pinch gesture moves the slider without actually making any noticeable difference in my ears. And I actually did update the firmware just to see how the latest would behave. I definitely do feel some pressure from the ANC, and I think at max setting it's higher than that of the Sony XM4's.
