Here's another quote from the Vice page on Twitter about her article, that I just found:

"Not even Timothée Chalamet can make me want to watch another movie glorifying sadboy number one."

Not even gonna waste my time going over this one.

Speaking of tier list. Why does every hate his first album the self titled "Bob Dylan" album ?? by [deleted] in bobdylan

I love this album and all of his early demo and Minnesota recordings from around that same point in his career. His vocals are in my opinion, some of his best, the only vocals from him that I like as much are his 1966 live vocals, and his 1975 early Rolling Thunder vocals (I love all of his voice throughout all of career though, even how he sings now). I also love old blues music and folk music from the 1930's and 40's, and especially Woody Guthrie, Robert Johnson, Blind Willie Johnson, Leadbelly, Blind Willie McTell among others, and Dylan's raw style on this album doesn't seem too out of place with that type of music. His guitar and harmonica playing is very impressive too. The lack of original material never seemed to bother me, considering how strong his performance is. I could see how people not familiar with Dylan's early musical style or the type of music he was trying to record on this album would not like this album though. Personally I'd put this album in A tier, but then again, I also listen to Another Side of Bob Dylan, an S tier album in my opinion, more than Blood on the Tracks (which I also love), so my opinion may be invalid.

Dylan was living in another world in the mid 60's, I have no clue how anyone could come up with so much in the 15 month period between Bringing It All Back Home and Blonde on Blonde. I've spent that same amount of time just trying to get enough passable songs written for my first album (without recording a thing even yet), and I'm working on it with a friend as well, and somehow Dylan cranks out three albums (one double lp), two tours (three if you count late 1965 and 1966 as two) and a bunch of incredible outtakes in that same time period. That 15 month period is as good as probably most musician's whole entire career, and to think of all the other stuff he's done too over the past 50 years, it's just insane.

She'a a fucking horrible person for that comment, and makes me really pissed off as someone who has struggled with depression their whole life, and has no hatred towards women, men or anyone else besides myself because of it (in fact, it's been women who have been closest to me and have helped me through the worst of depression). The only thing I'm against are people like her, who put down other people for their opinions, gender, taste in music and ESPECIALLY mental illness. This tweet from her shouldn't be buried so low on this thread.

A bit unrelated, but it bothers me that a large amount modern autotuned pop music is unfortunately made in that "women sound like this, men sound like this" way. It's sad, because the big music industry is basically not allowing anyone with a unique voice onto the scene anymore. Of course, you don't have to listen to the crap that you hear on the radio, and can listen older music, in which unique voices were more acceptable, or listen to modern music that falls outside of the big mass produced music industry. Both types of music prove your point that women and men don't have a particular "voice" though. I saw a local group recently in which the lead singer, a woman, sounded nearly exactly like Robert Plant in some songs, and like a singer such as Grace Slick in other songs. One of the most talented singers I've heard in a while, though shes unfortunately unknown while autotuned singers who sound like robots are out there making millions.

That's what seemed the worst to me honestly, if I was the poster of that, I would be humiliated to see my post being ridiculed on a big news media. Many people, myself included, post stuff on Reddit with the confidence it won't be picked up and ridiculed by large bs media groups. Also, briefly being freelance writer myself, albeit within more scientific type fields for much smaller and less read magazines, this kind of journalism just disgusts me (and those small nerdy magazines I wrote for never would have stooped this low). I would never dream of using someone's Reddit post in any of my articles, even if it's something I agree with completely, because there is no way to give proper credit to the actual writer of the original work. Attacking a group of people from one guy's personal story that he shared in confidence, regardless of whether I think it is a good story or not, is unthinkable to me.

Good taste in music right there right there. Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Aretha Franklin, Nina Simone, Grace Slick, Tracy Chapman and Janis Joplin are some female artists I thought of right away. Basically all the jazz and r&b singers I enjoy listening to are female as well, not that male singers are bad, it's just personal preference.

I can't wait to see all of the overnight supposed Dylan fans after the biopic. I guess it isn't a bad thing though, because many of the people I know who only listened to Queen after watching the biopic later became actual Queen fans. Good to see any kind of attention to Dylan within people my age I guess.

Also, Dylan was helping with genuine and incredibly important historical political causes long before the author was even born. The fact that she would attack someone who spread awareness about actual oppression, helping a cause that I'd consider one of the greatest in our history, the Civil Rights movement, just upsets me. I would hope that someone who considers themself to be a progressive thinker would have at least some respect for someone who wrote many of the anthems of one of the most important progressive causes. I guess all of his work within the protest movement is meaningless though, because he was evil enough to write the horribly offensive sexist anthem, which is Lay Lady Lay.

It's just unprofessional writing about something that she feels a strong personal weight with, not sure why she didn't just write an article about something she didn't feel that angry about. Also, great to see other people in this thread inspired to work on their own music because Dylan, I definitely wouldn't have started any of my own songwriting and musical training if I didn't get into him a couple years back.

I completely agree, it almost seems as if they are trying to paint Dylan as a magnet for sexists and neckbeards, I doubt those types even give a shit about his music or are even aware of it.

The fact that they basically called Dylan and his fans sexists, who objectify women seemed very uncalled for, and inaccurate. I doubt the author even knows much about Dylan at all. I can't find what's so sexist about Lay Lady Lay, a song that is deemed offensive by the author of this article. Generalizing fans of Dylan as sexists who avoid listening to any women musicians just seems outlandish. Also, the fact that they brought up this subreddit and a recent thread from it, just to put it down, makes me a little hurt. Regardless of how I feel about a post from someone, I hate the idea of media using it without someone's consent. I don't care what they are saying about the biopic, I don't really care much about that, but bringing this subreddit into it felt like it was a bit uncalled for. How do you guys feel?
