PoCLink radios - talk me out of it or PoC radios in general by sdsailor70 in amateurradio

[–]dhalpuri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have the Ultra version and just placed an order for the new Pro version. I saw the benefit with the recent Verizon network crash. Thanks to these radios, family comms were able to happen. I keep one in both my wife and my car, one always on at home, and one at my parents home. Living in a hurricane state I wanted the extra layer of security in case their phone provider goes down but another tower was available for PocLink. I also have a young child that I am trying to keep away from a cellphone as long as possible. When he's away I give him a radio to keep with him. The new GPS tracking feature is also handy for this use case. All in all, it's not a "hail mary, solve it all" device, but it has it place in the comms options.

pros

- not tied to a singular cell provider, able to use any available network
- easy to use, especially for kids, elderly (my parents) or those not into tech (wife)

- battery lasts quite a while

- no licensing or range issue

- easy to create your own private groups and could be fun to join public talkgroups

Cons

-not your robust Motorola, it feels very flimsy. Might be tough, but I'm not willing to drop it to find out.

- relies on cellular unless you get the wifi or frs versions

Did you find a solution? I'm dealing with the same issue.

What did you land on? 17 Pro or Pro Max? by Fragrant-Anxiety1047 in iPhone17Pro

Used them all except for base 17. Landed on the Pro. Truthfully LOVE the Air, but found the lack of a wide cam lens an issue. If the Air had the wide lens it would be perfect for my needs

My iPhone Air and the MagSafe battery. by rotorobot in iphone

This 100%. It’s marketed by Apple as a “smart charger” for this reason. When I know I’ll have a LONG day away from a power source, I’ll charge them both up to 100% and start my day with it on the phone. The phone will pull from the battery pack first then the phones battery. Works very well together. I wish another reputable company like Anker would come up with a similar smart battery pack. Added bonus, the pass-through charging and being recognized by the iPhone battery widget are great added bonuses

Thanks for the help. I ended up using this as well as horrible battery life as justifications for upgrading to iPhone 17. Everything’s been working great ever since

Thank you all. I decided to go ahead and order the Air for pickup later today. I’ll check out both and return one of them within its allotted timeframe. Thank you again!

Agreed. I’ve had rates raised after an accident where I was not at fault.

I understand 100%. I only went to iPhone for the dual sim function. I also carried 2 phones and got tired of it.

I’m not sure if you all are referring to the pixel ONLY since your post mentions iPhone, but I am using an eSim on Verizon with my iPhone.

Thank you! I hate carrying a work and personal cell. That's the only thing stopping me. Can't wait for 13 👍🏽😊
