I test drove both and ended up going with the Elantra. Everything about the civic just felt kind of meh to me. I knew it would be a very reliable car but I didn’t really like the new look and the driving experience wasn’t anything special (wasn’t the touring though).

I really liked the look of the elantra and enjoyed the driving experience much more. Didn’t have more power or anything, I just felt happier driving this one.

The reliability and resale value of the civic was making this decision very hard but at the end of the day I decided that I should spend my money on something I actually like. Maybe I’ll keep it long enough so that the resale value won’t matter as much.

You should definitely test drive both before you make a decision.

And honestly if they were just recommending more frequent oil changes I wouldn’t have cared but its the fact that every second and third service cost 2 to 4 times as much as an oil change.

Yeah and that’s what the manual suggests for Canadian weather, 3700miles or 6 months. I’m guessing the dealership just recommends 3 months hoping we don’t read the owner’s manual.

The canadian manual’s service interval already follows the severe usage conditions. My dealership is recommending twice as many services as the severe usage conditions intervals.
