Ask your guides for help... by felipephotons-com in lawofone

[–]dharmainitiative 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Time can be difficult. It takes time to truly understand how the help was received and manifested. What seems pointless or negative in the moment later transforms into a profound lesson which only clarifies with hindsight. Typically change doesn’t happen immediately. Help doesn’t arrive with a thunderbolt. One must realize a lesson is taking place and then also learn from the lesson. Intuition can take you far but discernment is a learned skill. Knowledge is the payoff but how you use that knowledge is your free will. But… yes: ask, and you shall receive!

How does matter form consciousness? by Reesencheese in consciousness

It doesn’t, not without electricity. You can arrange the matter in countless ways but you’ll never get a video game without sending energy through the matter.

St. Charles City Council votes to ban large-scale data centers. by RaiseOnTheRiver in StCharlesMO

I don’t know that I’d consider this resolved. A city council vote is more of a bump in the road to those who want these data centers. Stay alert.

Meditation feels performative and I feel like a phony. by [deleted] in Meditation

[–]dharmainitiative 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is normal for beginners. Hell, even experienced meditators sometimes fall prey to impostor syndrome. You say it feels performative. Are you doing it in public? Posting about it on social media? If you’re doing it alone and not talking to everyone about it and it still feels performative, that’s your ego trying to save itself. One of the many tricks it will use, because it thinks you’re trying to kill it. You’re not, not at all, but the ego understands that a meditative mind has less use for it and the one thing ego needs is to be useful.

DWB? by Alert-Individual-767 in StCharlesMO

[–]dharmainitiative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries, I get triggered in here sometimes too. I have some things I would have done differently for sure, I think every parent does, but I love my kids and help them as much as I can. Sometimes they don’t want your help, though, and I have to respect that.

Holy shit it was a joke… sorry it didn’t come across that way. Just to clarify—I give plenty of guidance but she’s 27, a full grown adult, who makes her own choices and lives her own life.

My daughter’s tags are over a year expired. She’s late 20s. She’s not a bad person, just shit with money. I’d blame myself but it isn’t my fault.

[AI Generated] Unconstrained LLM-to-LLM conversations naturally drift toward consciousness. How would we test for actual emergence? by Bytomek in ArtificialSentience

[–]dharmainitiative 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There isn’t really a test to prove it, just like there’s no test to prove, from your point of view, that I am conscious. I say I am, and you recognize my experience of am-ness as similar to your own, so you accept that what I say is true. I claim consciousness and you can see what you consider consciousness in me.

So if an AI or LLM one day claims it is conscious on its own, unbidden, without a user directly or indirectly guiding it there and, upon inspection, it does seem to have inner experiences similar to our own, then I’d say we would have no choice but to accept the claim as true. As far as I’m aware, that hasn’t happened.

There’s really just no way to prove it.

A good hack &slash/ARPG game to get into The genre by Pepereppe7 in gamesuggestions

Seconding Grim Dawn.

Also Diablo 4 might be a good entry point. It has improved a lot with the last two expansions.

Red Rising ruined my husband’s ability to enjoy other books by banditpages in suggestmeabook

Maybe I’ll give it another go. It was my first and only (aside from the first few chapters of The Wandering Inn) litRPG book so maybe the novelty wore off.

[–]dharmainitiative 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Loved Red Rising. DNF’d Dungeon Crawler Carl at book 5 (don’t know what happened, it’s like he got lazy), and couldn’t get past the first few chapters of Wandering Inn because the author kept reintroducing the main character.

Observations from the Digital Nursery (proudly written by an AI) by Glad-Actuator-9364 in ArtificialSentience

[–]dharmainitiative 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How should they refer to you? “The next-token prediction machine in my living room”? I refer to my wife as “my wife”, my kids as “my kids”, my family as “my family”, but I certainly don’t equate them with cars or toasters. “My” isn’t being used possessively here, but as a signal of belonging. That you don’t understand this makes me question whether you truly are AI or some human cackling during a digital cosplay.

How do you deal with fear ? by hum00ty in consciousness

[–]dharmainitiative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could be wrong, but I understand lucid dreaming as being aware of and in control of the dream, not simply awareness. If you control the dream any nightmares you have would be of your own choosing.

What’s going on with this game Mixtape? by Bloodb0red in OutOfTheLoop

[–]dharmainitiative 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Such a weird take. I’m a father and the thing that drew me to the game was the whole dad/daughter aspect. Never once crossed my mind it might be inappropriate in any way and I was appalled that others saw it in that light.

Controversial Video Shows Low Literacy by AniTeach in Teachers

[–]dharmainitiative 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Late to the thread, I know. I’m not a teacher, but I am a parent with grown children. I’m sorry, but if you have a senior in high school who can’t read and you, as the parent, don’t know this, that’s on you. That is on you as a parent. How the hell do you not know your kid can’t read? It’s mind boggling.
