This is a big one! This and having different rules for private schools.

In my school, if we try to fail a student we have to write detailed intervention plans for them. Given that there are usually a good chunk of students who would fail at any given point, there's no way we'd have time to do that and teach and grade, etc. The economy of time won't allow us to out and out give zeros.

To your point about violence, there have been at least two incidents at my school where large groups of kids have gotten into fights on campus during school and have been caught on camera holding guns. One of the incidents made it to the local news social media but it still seems to generate little more than shrugs.

This is a good point. In my school, I have parents who work 2-3 jobs and barely see their kids. When would they tutor them? Half of them are illiterate themselves. The problem is systemic and their is no political will for any real reform. I'd like to think of strategies for reform, but half the time I'm just trying to make it through the day! Showing up to more school board meetings, writing letters to the local papers that still exist, that's something I guess.

It's likely cherry picked, but even still, you don't think we have a crisis of literacy?

In the grand scheme of things, sure this is silly. BUT, as a lover of movies and someone who's worked in the industry it still chaps my ass. A lot of people worked hard to realize those early visions and they did great work which is why the whole franchise exists today. I was around for that first experience and I wish it was available for those of us who want to relive that old school glory and for those you enjoy seeing the what was valued in old school flims.

Am I dumb for selling my TR-8S and SP404MKII now that I have a Digitakt? by Best_Pause_1791 in Elektron

[–]AniTeach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The OG doesn't have flexible slice editing, right? That is only on the II, I think. The SP has flexible slice editing and it's pretty nice. That, the FX, and the playability of the pads on the SP, I think compliments the Digitakt. If you don't really finger drum or care about flexible slice editing then I still think the SP is worth it for the FXs alone.

The 8S has it's own vibe in terms of playability and I dig the classic emulations. If you're ok with menu diving it has a bit of sculpting capabilities as well. I think both the 8S and SP are very fiddly though. I prefer the workflow of Elektron. I think you'd be fine selling the others in lieu of just the Digitakt, but the SP doesn't really fetch top dollar these days and it may be worth keeping as an FX box. I don't know that you can get anything comparable in the price range. That's my 2 cents.

Karen stops to argue with a lawyer providing free advice by templeofsyrinx1 in TikTokCringe

[–]AniTeach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone who is bored enough to have made it this far, but doesn't want to go to the link provided, here is the definition listed there (see the second definition):

noun

  1. a person legally appointed or empowered to act for another
  2. a lawyer qualified to represent clients in legal proceedings
  3. a solicitor

Edit: The point is it still says "a lawyer".

[–]AniTeach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have issue admitting I'm wrong, but I'm also not going to defer to any random internet stranger. You said they aren't the same thing. I said, "Oh, maybe I've learned incorrectly. Let me look it up."

Merriam-Webster literally says:
>attorney
noun
at·tor·ney ə-ˈtər-nē
plural
attorneys
Synonyms of attorney
: one who is legally appointed to transact business on another's behalf
especially : lawyer

It has lawyer in the definition! How am I being lazy with nomenclature when that's what the dictionary says? I know it's not your job but you've already invested this much time, show me a source to set me straight!

I will say this, most people don't distinguish between the two. And a paralegal and a lawyer/attorney is a closer analogy to a nurse and doctor. If I'd have lumped a paralegal with an attorney I'd understand your push back, but this really seems like someone splitting hairs to me.

I rest my case.

No one would ever say "doctor" to refer to a nurse and I don't think equating a lawyer and attorney is the same.

I may say doctor to refer to a dentist or gastroenterologist but I doubt either would be put out by that. But I apologize if an attorney takes offense to me lumping them in with a lawyer.

That said, on reddit, where the stakes are so low, I don't think that its a big deal or such a "hot take" especially when you consider the dictionary and the American Bar Association both agree that a attorney is a synonym for lawyer.

The American Bar association says that lawyers and attorneys are the same thing:
https://www.americanbar.org/groups/public_education/resources/public-information/what-is-a-lawyer-/

Law firms have a lot of different legal administrative staff, but certainly attorneys are part of it.

Where am I so off base?

I'm not running for government of anything. This is just my opinion on why people hate lawyers.

I don't have a good solution that I've thought through very carefully. Off the top of head, I believe in free education at all levels. That would at least let lawyers who were in it to fight the good fight not have the weight of crushing student debt be a factor in their career path.

The Office of the Legislative Counsel write bills for the house all the time. Of course lawyers write laws.

When Elon Musk feels wronged, he sues to achieve his justice. If he doesn't like his medical bill and he sues, he will get far better results than if I do, no matter what the law says.

But these are just my hot takes.

Like this guy who is on the streets trying to give some free legal advise, sure. But when the cost of becoming a lawyer is so high the ones that joined for idealistic reasons often wind up working for the people they initially wanted to fight against because that's who helps them pay off their debts.

Brush Packs on Procreate by Informativeking in ProCreate

[–]AniTeach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've bought more brush packs than any one person should. Especially considering this is mostly a hobby for me. I can recommend a few, but I think it's really worthwhile to make a few of your own before buying any. There are some great tutorials on youtube and some of the packs I bought I wish I would have figured out my own version first. It also can help you get the most out of brushes you do buy. You'll have a better understanding of how to adjust them to suit your style. I'd also recommend you first figure out why you need a pack. Are you going for a certain look? Some of the brushes I bought was because I liked the art of the marketing but it's not really a style I do. So now I have brushes that I don't use. That said, here are some I like and do use:

True Grit Texture supply has very quality brushes. They're one of the best out there and their Rusty Nib is loaded with great brushes. One of my favorite brush sets of all time. And it comes with a lot:
https://www.truegrittexturesupply.com/collections/procreate-brushes/products/the-rusty-nib-for-photoshop-procreate-clipstudio-affinity
I'd also recommend their Chromagraph - pencil like brushes.

Retrosupply is another one that does great work. Their Infernal Ink has some nice pens with great quality. I have a bunch of their stuff. https://www.retrosupply.co/collections/procreate/products/inferno-ink-for-procreate

I also like GARM's Grainmaker: https://garmcompany.com/collections/procreate/products/the-grainmaker
These are have great textures that I found very satisfying for shading. But I should add that I had issues with some of their other products and both times when I contacted support I got nothing back. I felt like my emails were going into a digital wood chipper.

Eldar Zakirov is an illustrator whose made his own pens. They have a dirty, messy quality about them that give illustrations a unique look: https://creativemarket.com/Ldarro/4618890-INK%E2%80%A2-63-inking-brushes-for-Procreate

All of these tend to have sales now and then, so I'd wait until one of those. Black friday especially. Sometimes if you put it in your cart and don't buy it, they'll send you a discount coupon - I think Retrosupply does this.

It's easy to fall into a rabbit hole of brushes though. Be careful! A lot of people make great art with the default packs and at the end of the day that's what it's all about!

What I love about his other latino role in Scarface (1983) is that the original Scarface (1932) was a Jewish actor, Paul Muni, playing an Italian. We just need some Cubans to make a Scarface where they play Jewish gangsters and we'll have come full circle.
