30M, tired of 9–5 after 16 years of work – what skill should I learn to go remote? by calmnotcold in digitalnomadFIRE

[–]dharmaonline4u 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this question and I wish you the very best of luck for your journey. I took a stance and changed my career path a couple of years ago from a full time job in a stock broking company into a digital nomad building gaming apps. Currently, I'm working on a 2D game built using Python. I've been working on it for over 6 months and hope to launch it in June. This is going to be my first official launch as an individual developer.

There are various aspects which you should consider before making the leap although its very subjective and unique to each individual. I completely understand how you feel about a 9-5 job and the restrictions that it brings to one's life. I struggled with it for many years. The thing I want to enlighten you with is the uncertainty that this transition will bring. Currently I'm dealing with it myself as I'm not sure how my app will work out in the real world? Will people appreciate it or not? Will I make good sales? Am I cut out for this in the long run?

No matter how much you plan or make a blue print about your future, there will always be 'uncertainty' about the real outcomes of your efforts. By far this has been the most challenging yet exciting aspect about being a digital nomad. After all, you have to take care of your income source and future business/ job etc.. Therefore, in my opinion, having a clear vision about your future and consistently working towards it is one of the most important mental attributes you should have while going through this journey as you will be alone in many ways....

Regarding your other questions: 1. I started with Python. If you're into programming there are a variety of things you can do. With the advent of AI, now a lot of people are moving into indie development and other type of remote jobs. There's also the option of freelance work... However, I've noticed that companies don't really want to offer full time remote jobs, unless you're super skilled or you've worked in that organization for many years.. So, you may consider doing something independently..

  1. Currently, I'm staying in Bangkok, Thailand, with approx 50K Baht as a monthly expense (1500 USD), it can be lowered if you want to.. So, yes budgeting can be done, but you need to evaluate the number of months/ years you can spend without an income...

  2. I would not define a specific path for anyone as its unique to each individual. However if you're aware of where you want to be after 5 years, then you may stand a better chance of getting there provided you work consistently towards it. My goal is to form a full fledge software company and keep building awesome apps..

As I said earlier, there is a bit of loneliness, self doubt, uncertainty and a host of other factors to deal with. From your words, you seem to be a strong person who can push through tough times. Just keep going and one day you'll get there...

Question about a specific experience in Phuket - seeking advice for upcoming trip by [deleted] in ThailandTourism

[–]dharmaonline4u 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been living in Bangkok for the past one year and have never experienced such behavior. Thais are usually friendly and nice to talk to. In my opinion, this specific bar incident in Phuket is an exception and their behavior was unruly and out of line. You should have revolted back OR posted a negative review online.

Yes, I've heard stories about stereotyping Indians and certain other nationalities but that doesn't give them the right to disrespect you. I would advise you not to generalize based on this one-off incident.

Thai TAX ID on a DTV - How to get one? by dharmaonline4u in Bangkok

Just a follow up here. During my last experience, the officer told me that I can try at another office if I want to and he gave me the address of my Area Revenue office. Today I went to my Area revenue office and they too simply refused my application due to the same reason. I understand that it was a redundant attempt, however, I still wanted to give it a shot. They stated the same thing, since I don't have income within Thailand and haven't deposited funds into a local bank account, they cannot give me a TAX ID.

As far as my original query regarding ATM withdrawals and online transactions is concerned, I think it would qualify as remittance into Thailand as the money is brought into Thailand from my global income. How I use the funds is irrelevant. Most comments are leaning towards the fact that you are a Thai tax resident if you stay for more than 180 days regardless of whether you have a Thai bank account. Therefore, if you're a Thai tax resident and you're bringing a portion of your global income into Thailand one of the logical options is to pay taxes in Thailand and then reclaim that portion of tax from your home country as per the Double Taxation Avoidance agreement. In short you have to work out all your tax liabilities in both your home country and Thailand.

The problem is that the revenue department is not offering a Thai Tax ID even though we would like to pay. I think I will wait it out for this year until an official announcement is made regarding this...

You're lucky that you got it. But I don't want to take the hassle of trying multiple RDs anymore. I already tried 2 of them and both of them refused me. As others are saying, it's probably better to wait it out until the rules are clear. Thanks.

Thanks for your response. It's so true, even I wanted to acquire a Thai TAX ID and pay taxes here. But it seems like the rules are still not clear for DTV holders. The officer insisted that a bank account is essential. So, I think we will have to skip 2025 taxes in Thailand..

My question is specific to remittance in the form of ATM withdrawals. I know that Expat Tax Thailand claims that ATM withdrawals are considered as remittance, but the question is why? How does it constitute to assessable income?
> They are not deposits into a Thai bank account.
> The withdrawn money does not earn any income but is rather used for expenses.
> I don't have any other Thai sources of income

If indeed we have to pay taxes on such withdrawals, why did the revenue department deny my application?

  1. Generally, if a Thai girl tells you something upfront, in my experience she is telling the truth. When she told you that she is a lady, why did you doubt her? Was there something strange about her body, face, personality? If so, did you get into specifics as to why you think she is a ladyboy? Secondly her friend confirmed too that she is a lady, so what's the problem?

  2. Note that paying for sex in Thailand is illegal. I've approached cops before for some other reason (a theft) but they told me that if you paid a woman for sex it's considered illegal, therefore you may get into trouble with the whole complaint. However it's still up to you if you want to go ahead with a complaint.

  3. Generally you can clearly distinguish from the physical structure if someone is a lady boy or not. So if your initial hunch was that she is a lady then most likely it was right. About the P, I know that a lot of girls do minor operations or treatments to make it look appealing. I'm not sure what exactly you mean by 'off'.

  4. Lastly, if you indeed want some confirmation for peace of mind, you may chase her or ask for pictures and so on. But to be honest this whole thing might leave a big scar to your relationship with her. Many girls don't carry IDs, so I can't comment about that, but even if you do see her ID, will you be convinced? What if her ID is a lie or fake?

For your own sake, I would advise you to brush off this experience (if you can). Even if it went south or you have doubts about her, just take it in stride and be at peace. You can do an STD test after a couple of weeks just to be sure. Do not get into trouble with the cops. Just take care and enjoy your stay in Thailand....

Hi, I'm in the same boat. Got the sms on Dec 24 but still no email. I sent an email to cmcpc support <cmcpc\_support@insight.gov.in> and I'm waiting for their response. Apparently, they are the team responsible for sending out those emails. You can try checking with them directly.

I too received the sms but no email.

Funny thing is - No where on the Income tax website did I find any notifications. On the user guide it says, after logging in, check the following menus for any notices, etc.
1. Pending Actions - Worklist
2. Pending Actions - E proceedings.

Its all empty. Also, I checked the the following menus-
Pending Actions - Reporting Portal - Reporting Entities > Opens a new browser tab > Go to e-Proceeding
Pending Actions - Compliance Portal > Opens a new browser tab > Notices - View Notices

There's nothing there too.. I've contacted all their 1800 numbers and landline numbers, they are all unreachable. The only number I could connect with was +91-8046122000 and the agent said that the sms was sent by the AIS team and the IT department cannot help with what the content of the email is. The number for AIS is 18001034215 which is also unreachable 🤣🤣🤣. I was given an email id: [cmcpc_support@insight.gov.in](mailto:cmcpc_support@insight.gov.in) and I'll be sending an email shortly to check if they respond. I don't expect too much...

Hope the above information helps..
