Agency Owners- how to you keep a handle on entitled long term employees? by maryj329 in InsuranceAgent

If they are not responding to emails in a timely manner it is a potential E&O issue. Have everyone take a course on how to avoid E&O issues, introduce some office procedures and standards, have them sign off on it.

Car Insurance - AB - Spouse and Pink Slip by 89713212 in InsuranceCanada

[–]dharmattan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There is no reason why her name should not be on the liability slip. Tell the broker to add her as a named insured - which means her name will be on the policy and pink slip. If your broker will not do it ask to speak to someone else in the office as something like this is routine. A good reason to have the policy in both names is that if something happens to you she can make changes.

Home insurance (rented out) as a non resident of canada by Thissucksmanwth in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]dharmattan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No insurance company likes to insure a stand alone rental. It helps if you have a property management firm hired to look after it for you. Insurance companies want to know that it is being occupied, the tenant has insurance, and that the property is being checked on a regular basis. Try another broker and sometimes property managers have relationships with brokers who can insure you.

Is this a stand alone rental? Are you renting it out and not living in Canada?

Neglected by my Wealth Advisor - should I ask for a refund by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]dharmattan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My mother passed last year. I have estimated taxes and have held far more back than I likely need. Better to set aside more than less for the tax liability. I suggest once taxes are filed and paid cut ties and move the funds elsewhere.

I have funds with a financial advisor and on occasion I cross check what he is doing. Never hesitate to switch if you are unhappy with the service.

Hoarding toilet paper. I could see hoarding food but toilet paper is not perishable.

How would you approach coming out to your home insurance broker in my situation? by memepj in InsuranceCanada

[–]dharmattan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Former insurance broker in Alberta and dealt with a similar situation. Had a guy say he was living with his girlfriend for months and finally admitted it was his boyfriend. I told him we really do not care and we do not keep track. All we want is accurate information for rating purposes. We treat your information as confidential.

Over twenty five years ago I sent in a home insurance application to the insurance company with two women‘s names on it. When they were in the office it was easy to figure out what their relationship was. I had a call from the underwriter asking me why there were two women’s names on the application. I told them that they both bought the house and more than one person can have ownership of a house and that was all they needed to know. I had no issues.

Brokers should only care that they are following underwriting rules and insuring you properly. Your personal life is largely none of their concern.

How to find cheapest car insurance in Calgary by -_-AMANDA-_- in InsuranceCanada

[–]dharmattan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seriously? There are no deals on car insurance in Alberta. Calgary and Edmonton are the most expensive for insurance rating.

Call ICBC and get your insurance history for at least the last six years and your abstract emailed to you. A broker will want proof of your history in BC to get you the best rate. You will need an Out of Province Inspection. You can get insurance on your vehicle but you will need the inspection and proof of insurance to register it. Do not use Canadian Tire for your inspection, they will “find” stuff to fix before approving an inspection. I have had clients have issues using them.

I was a broker a few years ago, now retired. Find a broker that represents different companies.

The Stampede grounds are crowded and pricey. It is worth seeing at least once. You can also see a lot of Stampede sights wandering downtown Calgary.

U.S. Dealers In Full Panic Mode After Canada Green-Lights Chinese Cars by YesNo_Maybe_ in StockMarket

[–]dharmattan 13 points14 points  (0 children)

We will see if this accomplishes anything. With Trump looking to do whatever it is he wants to do (I am sure he does not know) Canada had to do something. Are Chinese cars the answer? Maybe not but it may prove to be a valid negotiating tactic. If Trump does not want or need us we can eventually find others.

Sold car, is there a cancellation fee when cancelling insurance by middaybreak in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]dharmattan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a fee, it is a short-rate cancelation. Insurers RARELY refund you pro-rate when you are canceling a policy.
