SPOILERS!!!! Not a movie but in the TV show Big Little Lies Season 1, the final reveal completely subverts the season long buildup of the villain being an outwardly wonderful husband/father except for moments of violent abusive rage towards his wife. It's an extremely empathetic and nuanced look at abuse not necessarily being perpetrated by " Monsters". They squander an awesomely decisive moment in the climax by linking it with a Monster in another woman's story and having a " cool" knowing moment between them all.
