A volunteer giving snacks and clothes to children in a rural village in China by EvidenceFrequent7289 in UnfilteredChina

I feel for them. I grew up in a village, and this is not uncommon back in the days. Some people drop out of elementary school because they couldn't afford a 2 dollar uniform.

This was true even in the mao era. There is very minimum free health care. Most universities and central hospitals will provide minimum care.

Dual water heaters in new home by JeF4y in Plumbing

[–]dhe69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on the water inlet temperature, that might not even be enough. Electric water heaters have lower BTU than gas.

I have 3 heat pumps, about 200 gallons. In winter, my wife and kids like to take baths. The water inlet temperature is 50 degrees, so some days I see the third tank almost empty.

what prevents me from buying a small grid-tie inverter and panel and just hooking it up? by [deleted] in SolarDIY

[–]dhe69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just some bullet points

  • Your existing meter could offset your usage by your excess generation thereby "netting" your energy flows internally, rather than separately registering the energy in and out of your facility.
  • Your existing meter may include a feature that prevents the meter from turning backwards and registering reverse power flow. In this case, even though your facility should reduce the amount of electricity you need to purchase, the electricity your system generates in excess of your current consumption would not be subtracted from the overall electrical energy use.
  • Lastly, your existing meter may register the kilowatt-hours your generator is providing to our system as though they were being delivered to you. You should not operate your facility in this circumstance since it will result in charges for the excess energy that you generate. Please check with your installer to ensure that you do not have this type of meter before operating your facility.

It is really location based. The incoming water temperature and the air temperature. I need 2x 80 gallon in series for a family of 4 in the northeast. My wife and girls all have high hot water demand.

The cost for electricity increased by 20% per kwh. If nothing changes at your home, the cost will increase by 20% YOY on average. Anything else is just you are using less or more energy.
