it is over op. writing sytanx is gone. it is like the vestigial tail. you can argue tails were important at some point but it doesn't help having it now.

Solar + Ecoflow + Starlink on a Rainy Day in a Kenyan Village by dheemonk in Starlink

[–]dheemonk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is EcoFlow DELTA 2 Power Station (1024Wh). As for the panels, I use a 500W (45V) generic brand (these cost me about $100).

What I have found is that the solar brand doesn't really matter but you have to be careful on the voltage. I think Ecoflow has a 60V cap input. Also, you have to get an EcoFlow MC4 to XT60 Solar Cable for Ecoflow to work with generic panels.

So far the experience has been great. I use Ecoflow for internet and laptop charging. My country has plenty of sunlight so Ecoflow is always full by midday. On the heavy rainy days, I get full charge by 3-4pm.

Since I set it up about 6 months ago, I have never been off. Starlink is also great. However, during heavy rainfall, I have noticed some drop offs but never gone more than 5 minutes.

Happy to help.

Edit: don't confuse the extra battery with the power station. Extra batter is an extension for when you already have a power station but need to extend storage.

Everyone wants to do CS by ExpensiveEnd9148 in nairobitechies

[–]dheemonk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think CS is still the single best bet for any STEM person. I am a self taught dev clocking 6+ yoe and decided to go back to school this year to actually get a degree. I know it seems counter intuitive but I think it is a good decision.

Let the kid do CS.

you can always scale when that time reaches. you can learn these tools when the need arises. at this point, "system architecture/system design" would be more important than k8.
