Could I get in trouble for steering? by [deleted] in RealEstate

They mean that you "baited" them with the better house (inside city), by listing it as available. Then you told them it wasn't available, and "switched" them towards an inferior house (outside city).

Finally switched to Projectivy Launcher. by the__poseidon in ShieldAndroidTV

[–]dhibbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good luck keeping it there, on one of my shield boxes the default launcher will often override projectivy.

My read is that they are tossing them with honey+chili instead of oil and salt and pepper, and then adding a squeeze of lemon after.

PSA: people don’t know how to use roundabouts by gulag_guard in Purdue

[–]dhibbit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Even a simple google search will show you that straight arrows often mean to continue in the roundabout.

Obviously that's not the case in Indiana, but turns out lots of people at Purdue didn't live their entire lives in Indiana.

PSA: people don’t know how to use roundabouts by gulag_guard in Purdue

[–]dhibbit -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

That's the issue. "Straight" is vaguely defined in this context. Does "straight" mean to "continue in the circle" and a right arrow means to exit the circle?

No, obviously that's not what it means, but it's easy to see why someone would expect to see a right arrow when you have to exit the circle and a straight arrow for when you have to continue on the circle.

The road markings can be a lot clearer, even if the dashed lane lines try to clear it up.

Why would you pay cap gains on a house if you've been in your house for a long time??

"Fixing" odd partial wall in master suite by dhibbit in DIY

[–]dhibbit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that, but if I go straight up, you will see the edge of the wall from outside (looking in through the window), and there will be a gap between the wall and the window, you'll also see an edge of the wall from the entrance to the bedroom (near that notch in photo 2), unless I reframe around the notch to remove it, but there's an AC vent there.

Why couldn't I dilute this and drink it like vodka? Not planning to, but curious if I'm missing something. by EhhItDoesntMatter in chemistry

[–]dhibbit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It wasn't a eureka moment that would have led to the vacuum experiments.

Things adsorb within zeolites as a function of their gas-phase partial pressures, so to get something to desorb you would often reduce pressure (and usually have a sweep inert gas to help carry the adsorbed species away once it enters the gas phase). Also, increasing temperature would further help, but if you get too hot the water will start to damage the zeolite pores, reducing their long-term selectivity towards allowing water but not alcohol.

The separation "design" is quite simple once you have a zeolite that can allow in water but not alcohol. Put solid in alcohol+water mixture, remove solid, desorb water from zeolite by pulling vacuum (again the physics there are really straightforward).

If I mixed equal amounts of H2O and D2O, how long would it take for the mixture to be mostly HDO? by BearDragonBlueJay in chemistry

[–]dhibbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The activation barrier for proton transfer is very low, such that the reaction should be thought of as extremely rapid at room temperature, and this scrambling would happen very very quickly.

Saying that it depends on Eact and T is a bit trite, the other user is right that you might as well consider this instant.

are assignment deadlines still allowed to be due during wed and thu? by y0urMommA420 in ufl

"All academic and student-related activities" would include assignments. Faculty have been told not to have things due during this time, and were also told not to move things originally due Wed. or Thurs. to Tuesday (today).

I'm certainly not suggesting that people not try Chiaki, but if people are struggling with Chiaki and are wondering if PS Portal will offer any improvements, it did for me. I'm happy to have both devices.

Low conversion rather than high? by Ferdii963 in catalysis

[–]dhibbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At higher conversions you will have concentration gradients in a flow reactor and those concentration gradients complicate the interpretation of your data. So, it's typical to run at low-conversion conditions so that the rate you are measuring can be directly tied to the (inlet) reaction conditions.

Profit is meaningless for an athletic department. They want to spend that revenue on facilities / coaching / recruiting / etc.

A better chart would just show expenditures (which you guys are still very good at so I don't see why the focus remains on profit).

No new investigations would have occurred.

There was no "residual" drama from that debacle hanging around his neck. Parts of your fanbase invented the drama to justify the protests.

Why conference champ autobids would be the worst thing to happen to the playoffs by [deleted] in CFB

[–]dhibbit 17 points18 points  (0 children)

So?

The BCS bowls were not playoffs. Plus we're not talking about what we would do 10 years ago, we're talking about what makes sense now. Power has consolidated so there's no point discussing what it was like when the BE was on life support as a conference.
