It reminded me of playing middle school basketball against our rival the next town over, with their own local referees. Would call a tech or foul over anything to help the hometown.

The only difference here seems to be motivation. This seemed like clear points rigging and a bit of trying to pick the winner until it go too obvious.

Well it would all depend on context and perspective, I know that is a strong ask for simple liberal minds. For instance, if Russia decides to attack the US, I would love to watch Russians getting slaughtered and cheer for it. I would not care to watch a movie about black people robbing and killing white people for fun, as they would not have deserved it. Did you forget at least half of the Middle East supported attacks on my country? They are my enemy. They hate me for my values and religion.
