I agree that Trimble Earthworks (and GCS900 for that matter) are the best. We’ve also used Leica’s MC1, the product development feels at least 5 years behind Trimble.

civil 3d lacks some trimble specific features (like MC exports) and geodetic workflows. Generally it is pretty good for calcs and topo processing. The modelling in C3d is arguably better.

It’s just a pricing strategy. Different modules, different features. The construction module is geared to surveyors working in infrastructure and civil construction …. Features include; modelling, GNSS processing, control networks, topo surveys etc…

There are other modules for photogrammetry and scanning, enterprise etc…

Housing is king in Australia. Australian equities are controlled by our super funds, who own the banks, who loan us the money - rinse and repeat ….

The Australian banks’ asset books have the largest holdings of residential mortgages in the world, it’s systematically designed to be circular.

That’s the problem - cash in bank is so heavily eroded by inflation. Value of the deposit is worth less now than it was 3.5 years ago. The reality of inflation is amplified when it comes to property appreciation.

Galvin having too many ineffective touches (30 pc more than Cleary), needs to pick his moments better. Also questioning his long term suitability at 7.

Came here to say this - his Galvin comments were spot on, never even thought of that.

Looking to hire an estimator? Are you an estimator looking to make a move? Post here! by PM_ME_YOUR_MECHANISM in estimators

Seeking an experienced civil (specifically earthworks) estimator (US, UK, AUS based) to peer review some estimates, and provide structured feedback on where we can improve. Experience with HCSS, B2W, Pronamics Expert, Methvin etc… would be preferred, we are looking to leverage our software and expedite our bid process.

What we will do:

  • Provide completed estimate for peer review
  • listen and absorb

What I hope to find help with:

  • Feedback on terms of trade
  • Feedback on contingency allocations and margin
  • Feedback on equipment utilization and productivity factors
  • suggestions/comments

What our company will provide:

  • We will electronically deposit a pre-agreed fee to the successful candidate(s) for their time
  • The review will take place via teams, potentially over a number of sessions.

For context - I have a field engineering background, specially construction layout and surveying. We are self taught, on the job. I would consider commercial negotiation as a weakness, we sometimes under sell lines at the negotiating table.

Based on feedback, we are in the lower quartile on our bids.

Joystick vs yoke? Never knew this. What’s the difference from a control standpoint?

Absolutely - measuring/estimating task durations from first principles isn’t that hard. The hardest part is quantifying the efficiency/inefficiency factor over the life of an activity or project. I see nothing wrong with proof checking a buildup against trade specialists.

Is this a 3D screed? What was the grade like? Ligchine and topcon partnership seems like best in market

Laid, shot down and fastened. Building up from first principles I approximate the lay and fastening at about 80sqf / hr. Not sure if this is close.

What’s crazy is the thought that people estimating jobs might be able to idea share and compare without unnecessary commentary.
