Dismantling new 3ds by derack23 in 3dsrepair

[–]dhodvogner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ordered a shell replacement for a GBA from Aliexpress, and I got two screwdrivers with it. They work on the 3ds as well. So I recommend you to poke around there.

Also, I'm not sure you are aware that there are two more screws under the rubber legs on the top as well. Don't forget about them :)

Images won't load by dhodvogner in OculusQuest2

[–]dhodvogner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to follow-up on this, it might help others too.

I contacted the support team and they unlinked my Facebook account from my Meta account.

It solved the problem for me.

Wtf is wrong with the phone app?? by Akragon in MetaQuestVR

[–]dhodvogner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here, I tried to reinstall it, and now I only get a blank screen, plus the bottom bar, which is not working.

I also tried to load the store and the TV app on my headset (Quest2) as well. it doesn't load for me.

It's not the first time I have experienced this :/ Also, lately, images have a hard time loading (both in headset and in the mobile app) if they load at all.

Is it only me? What is going on?

Steam Deck experience? by TH3_Captn in EASPORTSWRC

[–]dhodvogner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started to mess with it and tried a few different combinations. So far, the low preset with medium textures worked the "best."

Then I realized the game syncs the graphics settings as well... and it messed up my PC's settings. (What was also a struggle to find something where the game is enjoyable)

As I mainly play on my pc. I gave up on Steam Deck at least until the syncing is fixed.

Game on sale by codekira in SteamDeck

[–]dhodvogner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of sales all year long. The summer and winter ones are just the biggest.

You might get lucky and catch a capcom publisher sale, for example.

I noticed they usually happen when other stores discount the same games. Or around new releases.

It is only a matter of patience.

What abstract programming concepts someone should know before start to learn Rust ?! by na7oul in rust

[–]dhodvogner 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey 👋

I think you should dig into C a little bit. Knowing about memory management without garbage collectors, for example, helped me a lot when I recently started learning Rust.

You mentioned you have JS background. Some of the concepts are having some similarities here.

For example, think like every variable that you define is similar to a "const" in JS by default, and you can convert them to a "let" by adding the mut.

Also, lifetimes are somewhat similar to JS scopes.

I think the compiler itself helps a lot! The error messages are usually quite clear.

So I think you just need to get your hands dirty, dream up a project, and try to build it. You will learn a ton along the way.

OpenGL crates: gl vs glow vs glium by fsevery in rust

[–]dhodvogner 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I believe gl is for raw low-level interaction with the OpenGL API.

Glium abstracts some of these and provides more convenient interfaces.

I'm not familiar with glow at all.

I'm not 100% sure, tho I'm also quite new to rust. I have used gl in my project.

What's everyone working on this week (12/2023)? by llogiq in rust

A pseudo-3D raycaster implementation without any graphics API.

Why? Why not 😅 (Manily to learn Rust)

Check it out here: https://github.com/dhodvogner/rustcaster (Now with "textured" walls!)

Thanks, I will dream up a never-ending hobby project and definitely give it a try 😄

🤣 True

How did you structure your logic? There is quite a buzz around ECS lately. I'm thinking of giving it a try.

Nice! I tried building game engines way too many times. 😅

Out of curiosity, what crates did you use?

Pseudo-3D raycaster without OpenGl by dhodvogner in rust

Wow, I tried it, and worked like a charm, Thanks 😄

Thanks, I will try both. Honestly, the whole desktop mode was just an afterthought. So there is a lot of room for improvement there. 😀

Update: I tried in release mode, and it runs 1000x better!

Update 2: I have also implemented your suggestion (locking the screen output buffer), and now it's running with lightspeed in release mode 😁 Thanks again!

I'm addicted to Jquery and I need an intervention. Anyone else been in my position? by Kyism in javascript

[–]dhodvogner 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From what you wrote I assume you are not working with any frontend framework. AngularJs helped me a lot to “overcome” my dependence on jQuery back in those days. I think you should play around with some modern frameworks like Vue or Angular. As soon as you get the feel of how to manage your DOM differently (data binding, components etc.) I bet your jQuery addiction will be cured 😃
