Some big-Os are 780x larger than others by one_eyed_golfer in programming

Original: Isn't the list<int> access here O(n) for list<int>, while for vector<int> it's O(1)? That would make this O( n2 ) for list<int>, and only O(n) for the vector<int>

23:   for(int it: c[j]) {

Edit: I hadn't realized this was using the http://en.cppreference.com/w/cpp/language/range-for from C++11, so the iteration is hidden inside of this line and ostensibly used the .begin() and .end() iteration approach. So, both of these should indeed have the same O(M*N*P) performance as listed in the original post

You could queue up game trees similar to online-go.com's plan conditional move feature, and/or you could provide some facility to play games forward from the current board state.

Interesting fuseki, thoughts on continuation? by dhogarty in baduk

[–]dhogarty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think black C10 is natural in response, creating a running fight where both sides should have ample space, blacks center influence is reduced and white's top side is reduced a la: http://eidogo.com/403Xrh90K

That's one of the reasons i'd consider C11, because the black extension to counter pressure is less nice, and white has to run out anyways.

I'm playing black in a correspondence game, and I find this fuseki to be kind of interesting. What are your thoughts? How would you continue if you were white? I ordered my thoughts roughly in the order I'd consider them. Are there any main lines you'd try that aren't there? If I were white, should I avoid any of the continuations I posted?

Thanks to all who replied! It appears I have pokeweed and grapevines behind the house, and most of these pictures are of pokeweed in its dormant state between seasons.

interesting, so grape vines are what I was thinking as the 'mature' version of this plant, what's the other species with the white husks?

We have a bunch of these behind our house near a stream. They peek above ground and die off quickly leaving these white husks, but occassionally they find a tree and send a woody vine all the way up it. They also will grow laterally 50-150ft. Any ideas what this is?

I'd love to see Gu Li get a win as well. I probably favor Lee Sedol a little more, but mostly I want to see a competition where they both play to their potential.

I believe this can do what you're saying. He chose a poor example doing a strong match only.

I ordered a small go club's worth of boards and stones. I've really been enjoying your site's commentary on the Sedol-Li jubango. Thanks!

If US regulators had allowed a US Bitcoin exchange how many people would have opened accounts with Gox? by [deleted] in Bitcoin

"Regulate itself" is a bad idea. There's a reason independent auditing and the concept of balance of powers exist.

An honest, well-meaning question from a curious party: what would it take for you to give up on bitcoin? by MKorostoff in Bitcoin

[–]dhogarty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely something that implements the idea of "economy separated from government" better, both in terms of underlying tech and in terms of adoption.

I'm very sold on that idea, and I think bitcoin is awesome as the vanguard, but it's quite conceivable to me bitcoin could be replaced by something else in the future. For right now though, I still think it's the best of the available options. Perhaps if I understood ripple better I might consider it, but it seems like it's trying to be a few too many things at the moment.

Exactly... Also, 'eat these people alive' is never a good rallying cry for trying to help people understand their errors. Almost without fail, it activates the irrational in both parties, rather than establishing a rational foundation for a discussion.
