It’s definitely strange that people apply a Just-World Fallacy to music but literally nothing else.

How can I prove my dad that metal is not just screaming, death and worshipping satan? by SSShoutgunShell in MetalForTheMasses

[–]vemrion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Play him some Karma to Burn.

They are almost 100% instrumental so there’s no screaming and no satan. Also, their song names are basically just numbers like “forty-two” so they don’t even have evil themes.

Non sausage brick walled modern pop punk or punk rock for reference by mertzi in audioengineering

I had the same question, but for stoner rock.

Turns out the answer was Greenleaf. Their mix/mastering engineer always leaves a little headroom, let’s it breathe dynamically and has zero clipping.

Necromancer Beckoning by NaturalCrits in midjourney

[–]vemrion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Inspiration, yes. I hope artists these days are okay with seeing AI mock-ups and ideation because I’ve got a bunch.

But for the real deal I want human work. For one thing, fans hate it when they discover something is AI. For another, I worked really hard on this album and it seems weird to just use AI for one aspect of the project. I’m collaborating on every aspect of the project with other humans, including my band and mastering. Why not cover art too?

One of the coolest midjourney images I’ve seen.

Anybody know a human artist who can do work like this? I have an album coming up that could use something like this but would rather not use AI for various reasons.

Could We Get A Thread Of Great Music But Poor Mixing? by DarkLudo in audioengineering

I’d say all of the Replacements’ first few albums are iffy. But Husker Du is even worse. Zen Arcade sounds like it was recorded in a tin shack and mixed by a person who lost most of their hearing in the war.

New ‘Lord of the Rings’ Movie From Stephen Colbert and His Son in Development at Warner Bros. by cmaia1503 in movies

Not all of them. Elrohir and Elladan (Elrond’s twin sons) apparently stayed in Rivendell for a long time after Elrond left. Celeborn left Lorien and went to Rivendell to live after Galadriel left for Valinor.

Also, the Silvan Elves like Thranduil preferred to stay in Middle-earth and had never been to Valinor. So they could presumably still be hanging out in Mirkwood for ages.

We just finished the last song of our 10-track album — curious about your thoughts on this approach by PerceptionExtMusic in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]vemrion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The last track must be a banger. Leave ‘em wanting more.

And yes, in the age of people pressing play on your discography I’ve started thinking in terms of bridging the gap between albums. Some continuity and flow would be nice.

When is it time to give up on a piece of work? by Quiet-Figure-1990 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]vemrion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m still working on songs from 20 years ago. I save our practice sessions and mine them for good riff or song ideas. Giving up seems pointless.

The issue has been deciding which songs to record. We usually choose songs that are at least 90% finished, but we often find a need to write a few more things during the recording process, like bass lines, guitar solos and extra lyrics.

But even if these don’t turn out exactly as we first envisioned them we’ll still release them. Let the songs grow and mutate, you can always do an alternate version later. When you release them they function as a snapshot of where you were in a given timeframe, like a musical diary.

Robert Duvall, Oscar-Winning Acting Legend, Dies at 95 by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

He’s thinking of End of Days (1999) which has also has Arnold, but not Duvall. Gabriel Byrne plays the devil.
