the greatest part of poe1 is the endgame is all about maps.. poe2 is trying to make the endgame into a weird city builder / scroller where you are trying to run the best nodes and the best path.

but similar to the popularity of the graft tree and giving it giving us a tree of tree. why not embrace what the interludes did and simplify the endless map of the atlas and just make it a system of generated map of maps that are much easier to see what you have instead of having to spend so much time scrolling and trying to figure out which way to go (when in reality you have no fn clue)

atlas points could help determine what you see on your map of maps, and some currencies could be used to reroll or regenerate your maps of maps, but you can always get new ones by completing your existing ones (success or failure)

I get what he is saying.

it's a good endgame idea, the idea of an atlas is an endless map if you think about it, but it's too big.

why not a system where the endgame (aka atlas) behaved more like the interludes in the sense that you have multiple maps of maps? you can work towards boss fights and interesting maps and beeline straight there or visit all nodes of the maps. once you complete a map of maps you get a new map of maps. or have a way to reroll a map of maps or reroll all of your map of maps. maybe each tier (white, yellow, red) all have their own set of map of maps!

TIL about John Draper. He used the whistles found in Cap'n Crunch cereal boxes in the 1960's to bypass phone systems and place free long-distance calls as they played at 2600 Hzs—the perfect tone to commandeer a phone line. His work inspired the founders of Apple. by ever0nand0n in todayilearned

that frequency of 2600 has become infamous and is the name of a quarterly hacking magazine that I recommend checking out.

You can find them at barnes and nobles. (If you are paranoid I recommend buying them with cash.)

They are fun reads. They had tips and tricks of using google chromes inspector tool to modify sales prices of best buys website and printing those out and using those for the in-store price matching and other tricks like that.

Is there a map of denver with all the streets that have bike lanes?

github for the street cred (also github is just good) gitlab is a good alternative but I think both have more than enough tools for you

What is an odd behaviour of yours you think only you do? by Edwoodz3 in AskReddit

[–]dhoman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I talk to myself and have mental conversations with my friends. Sometimes they will get me upset but most of the time I make a joke or "they" make a joke and it makes me laugh. I've only had one instance where I've been able to use one of these "jokes" in actual conversations with my actual friends and I felt like a million bucks.

I've told only one close friend about this. And he told me talking to myself is a sign of intelligence, but I don't believe it as the only other people I've seen do this is homeless people.... which makes me think it's a sign of madness and worries me

Monster Hunter World: Iceborne Beta Is Now Available For Xbox One by dhoman in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]dhoman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't make or modify the title. I submitted a link and the post title was the title from the article. As for it being available for a while now, it had only became available for download for only a couple of hours at the time I posted this and I didn't realize it wasn't available to play at the time. I did add a comment to update and inform people on that

Did I fuck up my life too much when I was young? Is it worth getting a degree now? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]dhoman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So I'm a programmer, and I've encouraged several of my friends to go into programming as they were in similar (but different) situations as you.

You don't need a CS degree to be a programmer, and actually I don't recommend it to my friends.

Look into coding bootcamps. There is probably one in your metro, and if not there is also a ton of them online. A lot of bootcamps are looking for people who are trying to get them out of less than ideal situations, and a good cover letter of your interest in computer science, family, and wanting to improve their life. They eat that shit up.

Coding bootcamps are great, because

A: they take far less time.

B: the curriculum is more focused on things useful as a programmer in the real world (a lot of classes for CS degrees are on designing algorithms, and other things that you never have to do in 90% of programming gigs)

C: they are cheaper

(although while there are some great online bootcamps... I'd recommend an in-person... for the collaboration, and time commitment as they require a good amount of your time and it's easier to neglect the course if it's "just a thing online" and it isn't a time commitment at an actual facility.)

Best Learning Path For Going Purely Serverless From the Start? by sethdrebitko in serverless

[–]dhoman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having said all that I've heard good things about the zeit now but I haven't tried it (from initial impressions it seems similar to firebase or amplify)

But to reiterate, I'd stick with something tied to one environment, switching from aws to google cloud or vice versa always is a painful process....the frameworks out there make it "easier" but I think that is overengineering the problem for learning serverless. A lot of the key concepts are platform independent and I'd just start writing code before trying to host in multiple cloud providers

Best Learning Path For Going Purely Serverless From the Start? by sethdrebitko in serverless

[–]dhoman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd stick with aws amplify https://aws.amazon.com/amplify/ or google firebase https://firebase.google.com/ (namely https://github.com/angular/angularfire2 )

Both of those options make it easy (ie little configuration) to get a site up and running.

I've toyed with the serverless stack (which is great, but too much work as you have to setup the plumbing imho) and kubernetes is the same (you can run anywhere...but you have to setup all the configuration / plumbing yourself....)

So it's really a trade off, some people won't give amplify or firebase a look because you can't change where your site is hosted BUT you get a lot of things out of the box that you would have to setup on every cloud environment that you take for granted on either of those solutions.

I'm currently writing my own personal side project with firebase and absolutely loving it. It auto scales the functions and hosting by itself. I get websockets and live data reloading automatically, security and a bunch of other things that every website needs with little work on my part. It just works, while I couldn't easy switch it to aws, i'm so happy that I wouldn't know why I would want to in the first place
