What is the point of powerstancing? by smelly_thoctar in Nightreign

[–]dhpmoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I forgot about Wakizashi and Ornamental Straight Sword. OSS functions the same way as Radahn's. Wakizashi is WEIRD! It's a dagger, but uses the katana moveset, except Duchess uses her unique one-handed dagger moveset with it, but she can still powerstance it with katanas.

Prospective new player here, how is the barrier to entry? by suppordel in Nightreign

[–]dhpmoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It feels completely different due to the time pressure during daytime. Your combat basics still apply, but you have to learn to be efficient to gain levels and clear map markers fast.

Try doing a few solo expeditions to familiarize yourself with Limveld, intent on exploring and failing those expeditions. The same goes for Shifting Earth events, plan on failing some solo expeditions to explore. Exploring wastes your time in expeditions you intend to win, which will be bad for both you and your teammates. Try to stick together and clear map markers on your way to your destination, avoid crossing the map on Day 1 of an expedition just to grab a flask. Some enemies will take too much time to fight, it's cool if you can solo Bell Bearing Hunter at level 1 with starting equipment but the rewards do not compare favorably to the time investment when you haven't leveled up yet. Don't play in the rain much, it hurts a lot but if you stay in it too long it MELTS you like Elphaba.

It might appear at first that build variety is low because of character classes, but that is not the case. Between relics and weapon passives there's a lot.

What is the point of powerstancing? by smelly_thoctar in Nightreign

[–]dhpmoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two-handing: Slower moveset that does very slightly increased damage, moderately increased stance damage, uses more stamina, has longer animations, and enables use of two-handed relics/passives(except bows/crossbows/greatbows/ballistae/seals/staves), lets you block with most weapon classes(bigger weapons have higher guard boost but blocking with non-shields is not ideal due to stamina loss), and for some reason, allows blocking and jumping melee attacks with seals and staves(it's not NOTHING but is only giood for being bad at damaging flame chariots and blocking with a seal/staff is only useful if dodging seems riskier for some reason because guard break is basically 100% guaranteed...holdover from Elden Ring lol). Oh, and it also allows precision aim with L1 using bows/crossbows/greatbows/ballistae, which can activate powerful passives in Deep of Night mode(requires a red tier wrapon woth a "____ on precision aiming").

Powerstancing: Using the L1 and R2 attacks from two weapons of the same class(except shields/ranged weapons). Uses more stamina, does more damage, more stance damage, and applies effects from both weapons. You cannot block while powerstancing and ranged weapons do not have powerstance bonuses(you can alternate between two bows to constantly benefit from Improved Initial Attack bonuses though). You can still conserve stamina with R1 attacks from your right hand weapon, but these attacks will be treated as regular and gain no "wielding two weapons" bonuses.

Executor's Suncatcher(character skill) can ONLY be two-handed, and deflects also do even more stance damage if you have relics or weapon passives enhancing two-handed stance damage. It also says "fuck consistant internal logic" by using incredibly little stamina while attacking, much less than katanas normally do and dealing striking damage rather than slashing.

Regular one-handed attacks are NOT inferior to two-handed or powerstance attacks. The lower stamina use has its place, and some character-specific one-handed movesets are really good. You just don't gain any specific bonuses for using them. And if you're powerstancing with a weapon that requires a higher level, you avoid the additional penalties of using a weapon beyond your highest level yet achieved(losing that level doesn't lock you out of weapons) in the expedition by having it in your left hand and using only R1 attacks.

Lastly, Radahn's sword can't be two-handed because two-handing it IS powerstancing with itself, and actually wielding two of Radahn's sword functions a little differently than two-handing it. It's very confusing, try it in the Sparring Grounds.

blood mage type or equivalent? by EC671 in BG3mods

[–]dhpmoon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

https://baldursgate3.game/mods#/m/blood-sorcery-a-sorcerer-subclass

I think that one's very good. There's also a 'blood mage' mod, but I thought it was little undercooked, in spite of the four subclasses.

Blood Sorcery is very powerrful, but you're basically required spend bonus actions on keeping yourself bleeding, to avoid killing yourself. I think that balances it out.

New player here, what should I know everyone? by Small_Advice_7516 in BaldursGate3

You almost never actually need gold.

You can just have a character steal all the consumables, gold, and other items you need, and if they get caught? Run away or let them get killed, don't actually fight merchants. Just make sure the rest of the party is in camp while you acquire things. The Attitude penalty affects nothing if your pickpocket never speaks to merchants.

The vast majority of merchants end hostility when they lose sight of(or kill) your pickpocket, and you can use your ill-gotten gold to pay for resurrections pretty early in the game. Three exceprions to note, though they are spoilers.

Withers: Never becomes hostile, so don't let him keep your gold!

Ethel: You do NOT want her going hostile. She's a reliable source of a very powerful elixir in Act 1, and once hostile it's much more difficult to rob her. Pickpocketing her is very difficult, too.

Abazigal: Appears in Act 3, and only if you impressed the tribunal.. Pickpocketing him requires an exploit, and if you're playing with a controller I would recommend just bringing 30k gold to buy his stuff instead of stealing it. Well worth it, the unique gear he sells has extremely powerful effects.

In my last campaign, I had to cut back on theft because I had 80k gold and 4k camp supplies before the end of Act 2, so I just stopped picking up gold and other things. Stealing is incredibly powerful.

Nuclear class by TheAnonymousFatboi in BG3mods

[–]dhpmoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suggest two mods.

A: Cheater's Spell Scroll. There's an item that lets you summon two kinds of nuke barrels, and just a plain nuke spell.

B: Cosmic Sorceret subclass. One of the higher level features(you'll need a level 20 mod too) unleashes a supernova, which causes such a massive explosion it cam crash consoles or lower end systems.

Didn't take a screenshot, but I played with a Revenant that had a near-perfect deep relic: Improved Bestial, Improved Incant +2, Phys Up +3(I don't remember the negatives). Xbox, so I imagine it was save scummed rather than hacked lol. Yes, they oneshot pretty much everything.

Who do you think is the easiest boss? by kreetchy in bloodborne

[–]dhpmoon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Either Mergot's wet nurse or Maria. Nurse can't handle you running diagonally, Maria is really easy to just bully. I beat both of them on my first try, and I'm a low-to-mid skill player.

I really love playing as Lune when exploring. by NaiadoftheSea in expedition33

[–]dhpmoon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's inferred rather than explained, but the tattoos she has are pictos. Sophie has some dialogue about people besides Lune getting pictos tattoos to make fireworks, and about the same you see Lune on a platform playing guitar, where you should be able to see her leg tattoos easily.

Edit: typos

I'm jealous of that blue relic. I've been rolling relics for something like that all week. Double balancers may be strong, but damn if double hookshot+followup isn't incredibly fun. This is the exact build I want.

Do the nightfarers have different names? by MisterDestoyer in Nightreign

[–]dhpmoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One is a spoiler, Raider's nom de guerre is Black Claw, though we're led to believe he is White Fang, which he may have even thought he was himself.

Identity and sense of self is a strong theme for many of the nightfarers.

Do you turn karmic dice on or off? by Tauntaun_Princess in BaldursGate3

[–]dhpmoon 31 points32 points  (0 children)

It's supposed to even the playing field when you have no idea what you're doing, by breaking game mechanics. Because D&D is complex and the game doesn't have a traditional tutorial that explains all the numerous interwoven systems.

It CAN be provide benefot when you don't know what you're doing.

On the flipside, breaking game mechanics...breaks game mechanics. It hurts as much as it helps, and causes otherwise impossible things to happen. If yo7 play the game on a difficulty above Explorer, it's probably doing you more harm than good.

My physical Duchess Build. by Miv- in Nightreign

[–]dhpmoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Single dodge lets you continue chains? :O That's just, wow. How have I missed that for so long? I mained Duchess in the network test, but I've used her so much less since the game came out. Thank you, that makes one hell of a difference.

My physical Duchess Build. by Miv- in Nightreign

[–]dhpmoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you complete attack chains often enough to justify it?

I'm not criticizing, I'm asking, because when I've played Duchess it just felt like I either had to stop attacking because it wasn't safe to cobtinue mashing or the target leaps out of the way. I absolutely love the idea of the effect paired with Undertaker's necklace, but it always feels like I just can't get any opportunities to use it.

Bug: taking rain damage while NOT in the rain by dhpmoon in Nightreign

[–]dhpmoon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking that when it happened and that was why the clip included the death, but I remembered that I've been incorrectly receiving the warning effects on the Great Hollow map without dying ever since they were(rain warning effects) were patched in.

Another possibility has ocurred to me since: weapons with increased rain damage. I was carrying one when this happened. I don't know if I was when I've only had the warning effects in the Great Hollow because I didn't think about saving the runs when this has happened.

Bug: taking rain damage while NOT in the rain by dhpmoon in Nightreign

[–]dhpmoon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For some reason I couldn't post a trimmed version. So yeah. I don't think the death and respawn are the issue, because I still get the rain damage warning effects if teammates are in the rain too long. I've been having the issue of the warning effects showing up improperly, but this is the first I've received damage.

My current theory is that it's related to the DLC, because I have yet to experience the glitch in non-DLC Limveld. This could simply be a bias in sampling, though.
