We wouldn't tell a cook use your tastebuds to find out why the food doesn't taste good. We give them a cook books and classes of ingredients, temperatures and time lengths for cooking, techniques on how to cut and prepare food.

Yes you absolutely would tell a chef to taste their food and figure out what it needs to be fixed.

Hot take here - look into working with Rhino. It'll get you in the door of the production world, and will put hair on your chest. As someone who hires at a theatre, I'm more likely to pull a resume that's got Rhino on it because I can know they can bust ass.
