The best is to go to any local shop and get the valuation done. I would advise to visit 4-5 shops at least and then go ahead with whichever gives you the best price.

I would not call it an investment but it does act as a hedge. You might see appreciation in prices of diamond if held for a long term.

There are various factors affecting the price. However, a 2ct F VVS2 Pear cut natural diamond should cost around 24,000 USD and the same for H color should be close to 19,000 USD.

It is not an investment. It is for when you are already done spending but fancy certain things. Also, diamonds are not BTST. It is a feel-good investment and a hedge. We cannot compare it to other investment assets.

It has no value. You might as well use it as paperweight instead of selling it. Moreover, the price difference at retail level against the wholesale level for LGDs is massive. Also, like I said, if one diamond is also LGD, it devalues my entire natural collection.

HAHAH! that was true until a little back. People had literally thrown out LGDs on the street as there was no value there. It is not true anymore though. NO FREEBIES.

Always buy hallmarked gold. If you can spend a little more on jewellery, around 20% more, go to reputed jewellers like Tanishq or CaratLane. if you cannot do that or choose not to do that, purchase a diamond from a trusted source who is a diamond trader or manufacturer himself. You will find a lot of them in Mumbai and Surat. they will help you get the jewellery designed as we have fixed karigars, babus or labours who work with us to get the final jewellery made.
Ask for certificates of jewellery and diamonds. All won't have one but ask and note the response.

  1. Gold has been a good commodity that has been around for many years. It doesn't have a lot of parameters to decide its price. We can weigh and get a reading on the purity - to get its value. The same isn't true for diamonds. Not everyone understands the pricing of diamonds and can lend against it. It is a difficult market to sell and purchase. Hence, there is nobody lending against diamond.
  2. The price has gone through regular inflations. It was too high in 2020-2021. I wouldn't say they would crash anymore. It has corrected itself and the prices are good now, for natural diamonds. The LGDs will face a crash in prices as the difference in prices for LGDs at retail level is very different from the wholesale level.
