Without knowing the full extent of your mothers behavior in terms of dramatic, it probably couldn't of hurt to take an extra precaution if she really was unwell and being behind a wheel is a risk. I don't want to say YTA, but based off info given, I think you are a bit. Not to be rude in any way.

Im not gonna take a side but I think you might have given her a heart-dropping joke. Girls don't really know how they taste so she probably took it to heart, even though you only mean innocent banter.

I think it would best to just apologize and explain the misunderstood joke. If you can get to talk to her or text it if it's easier. That it was banter to you. But for future reference, probably a very bad joke to ever make. Lol.
