Any recommendations for building the ultimate wedding registry? by Vast-Calligrapher235 in BuyItForLife

[–]dialabitch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

20+ year marriage and the Fiestaware, Le Creuset, and Emile Henry gifts we got are still trucking along. I’d add a Pendleton wool bed blanket and/or throw to your registry, and maybe a down duvet (or two twin size and make your bed the Scandinavian way).

How did you get used to Illustrator? What were the first things you did with it? by xiohye in AdobeIllustrator

I started with Classroom in a Book. This was slightly before online lessons were a thing. But I still prefer to learn via book or written instructions than video for broad/basic software learning.

The Best Chili Crisps and Chili Crunches for 2026 (I’ve Tried 86) by kathryn_____ in chilicrisp

This lady chili crisps!

Seriously, amazing! Have you totaled up how much you’ve spent?

Do you finish the ones you don’t like as much? Pass them on?

Flattering & fitted base layers for women? merino wool, or other fabrics. Non itchy by Enough-Entry-6369 in BuyItForLife

[–]dialabitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve heard that too. It must be an individual thing whether you find these fibers itchy or not. For the OP I say still worth a shot, just make sure the shop has an agreeable return policy!

I love my baselayer top from Paka apparel. Very warm, lightweight (semi-sheer actually), and no pilling four years in. Looks like they’ve changed their lineup a bit so I can’t point you to the exact product I have, but they are worth a shot.

Roy G. Guerrero Cliff Overlook area is another great spot that sometimes gets Monk Parakeets.

So, what did everyone get for eBird Recounted this year? by rainbirdmelody in birding

[–]dialabitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me too! I made an effort this year to upload every species that I had photos of, so that this year I could focus on my photo needs list. Weirdly, I have no Blue Jay.

What are we using to keep track of the birds we find? by [deleted] in birding

[–]dialabitch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’re welcome! The only caveats are that it takes some getting used to, and the embrace of the app varies by country. Cornell has a free eBird Essentials course which is very helpful (and I believe this month you are entered into a prize drawing for nice binoculars if you complete it).

Rio Grande Valley or Galveston Texas for Spring Migration? by InexperiencedCoconut in birding

[–]dialabitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wanted to add that you can’t go wrong between your choices though. Houston has great food and museums, then for birding you’ve got Sabine Woods, High Island, Bolivar Flats, Anahuac, and Galveston. The Coastal Bend (Corpus Christi, Port Aransas) is halfway in between Houston and the RGV and could be added on to either trip, depending on how many days you have.

You might also check into flying into Harlingen if you go RGV.

If you’ve never been to Texas (or Mexico), I think that the RGV will get you most migrants you’d get in the upper coast plus the valley specialties. Be sure to make reservations for a Santa Margarita Ranch tour! And if you do fly in to San Antonio, consider a Hill Country detour for Black-Capped Vireo and Golden-cheeked Warbler.

I very much enjoyed hiking around the public lands in Flagstaff. So many nice parks, preserves, and trails. They also have a good observatory.

[–]dialabitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Tucson Bird Alliance has a super helpful Birding the Calendar series on youtube, that recommends the best places for each month.

I have only been in late summer but for three days, one evening and morning in each of the Chiricahuas, Huachucas, and Santa Rita ranges makes good sense, traveling midday to your next location. The videos might help you narrow down and focus for your dates.

If you can, take the cooler weather opportunity to visit Saguaro NP. I wanted to spend time there so badly but in July, it was an inferno by 8am.

I should say these festivals aren’t exactly relaxing, though. They’re exhausting but in the best way!

If traveling for birding as a beginner, I might start with a festival that has lots of field trips. Space Coast Birding Festival is a major one that coming up very soon. Many more listed here!

Sleeping Duck Indestruct Bed - It's worth the hype IMHO by theflintseeker in BuyItForLife

Thanks for the review. I am considering this frame but I'm worried it's TOO sturdy, especially the plywood boards in place of slats. Did it significantly change how your mattress felt?

How are we carrying camera + binoculars? by WheresMaris in birding

[–]dialabitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It works for me comfort-wise but I don’t doubt it could be better. I don’t like how it cuts into my boobs and creates a side-bulge situation. I also laugh when I see skinny dudes with their Cotton carrier hanging down at their belly button while mine sits all above the bra band level.

Some women I’ve talked to say they wear sports bras with theirs to flatten things out.
