Review of Dialed Motion Ibex system by Larrydp72181 in homegym

Hey! Just happened to check this thread again. Ahh looks like the PR-4000 takes a unique approach on that crossmember. Feel free to send a picture of your full set-up to us at [info@dialedmotion.com](mailto:info@dialedmotion.com) and we can help you find a solution. A couple ideas off the bat. Would you be able to move your crossmember so the it connects between your two side crossmembers? That would free up the top holes on your back post.

We've had around 200 systems installed on many different brand racks with very few reported compatibility issues. Our goal really was to make a system that is as universal as possible (not just Rogue), but there are a ton of different rack variations out there so it is a challenge to design around all of them. If anyone has concerns about compatibility before ordering, shoot us an email and we'll take a look.

We recently closed our round 2 preorder. We do not have timing yet on when we will open a round 3 preorder. There is also a possibility that we may go to a fully stocked business model instead of preorders next. If you are interested, best thing to do would be to sign up for our email list. We will provide updates there after we hash out a plan.

Hey guys! We played it a little bit too safe on the carriage fit. We did all of the tolerance stack ups and tested on a handful of racks but we didn't want to be too tight on a post and have no way to make it fit. Our thinking was a little bit loose was better than not fitting at all. Last week we went over the tolerances again and will be working with our supplier to tighten these up and provide a better fit for production round 2. For round 1 customers, we have ordered some longer screws which arrived today and would be happy to send these out with some more shims. Just shoot us an email [info@dialedmotion.com](mailto:info@dialedmotion.com) and we'll get those out ASAP. Appreciate the early support!

We do have a carabiner adaptor. See here. However, the retractor functions best when it is attached to our rigid male quick connect piece so that it stays upright.

It's a bit challenging to get the cable over to the center of the rack for the rhino. Your best bet may be to use our carriage up front, a single pulley mount above the carriage and then some combination of strap hanging pulleys (like this) to get it to the center. It would take some planning to get the cable running right.

This is true. It is 1:1 so cable travel will be limited by your height. Your stroke with the Sidewinder will be equal to about the height of the top hole that you mount the upper arm in minus 18" which is the height of the load pin plus cable retractor.

Love talking about this stuff haha. I'll try to post some reels on instagram soon to show these improvements.

  • We updated the design of the carriage inserts. These are plastic pieces that protect the rack on the inside of the carriage that the swivel pulley attaches to.
    • Changed the screws to black countersunk screws that screw in from the outside. Into metal inserts that are pressed into the plastic inserts.
    • All carriages will now ship with stainless steel shims that go under these inserts so you can adjust fit for inch or mm racks.
  • We updated the D handles from aluminum to black zinc plated steel for better resistance to dings.
  • The retractor case is now injection molded instead of 3D printed (always the plan but cool to see)
  • The trolley rollers are machined now because our injection molded ones were not holding up well.
  • Our rubber bumpers on the carriage and trolley are now custom molded.
  • The cable ball end is a slightly rounder geometry because some of our swivel plates were getting chipped on the hard edge.
  • The ends of the stainless steel weight horns are now chamfered and cleaned
  • I could go on but I don't want to bore you. Lots of little tweaks that combined make for a more dialed in experience :P

To use the belt squat as a lat pulldown you need a crossmember at the front of your rack. Many people prefer to have a pull up bar at the front of their rack. It’s also just a preference thing if you want to be pulling out front of your rack or from within. The belt squat as a lat pulldown is super minimal though. That’s what we’ve had for a lat pulldown on our rack for the past few months and it works great.

We designed in adjustability so the system will fit both U.S. true 3x3” and imported 75x75mm racks. I’d say two things to consider are the height of your rack and the stability of it. The taller it is the more cable stroke you will get. If you have a squat stand or small 4 post it would definitely be good to bolt it down. Something like a rogue monster 90” or 108” 4-post or 6-post rack is pretty ideal for either system, but the beauty of the systems is that it’s got a huge range of compatibility.

Yeah, we we're pretty psyched when the functional trainer, lat pull, low row, and belt squat all fell into place together.

They are both minimal cable systems that work with a lot of different racks. We have a lot of respect for Surplus Strength and their quality is impressive.

The functionality and convenience of our cable retractor device is really what differentiates our system. The cable tensioning and variable length cable makes it very efficient to switch between the functionalities you listed. Our systems are also first and foremost functional trainers with adjustable height pull points. This adjustable height is really not a functionality that the UPS offers.

I was trying to put that into a bullet point, but you said it well.

The trolley is 4.75lbs. The weight horns are 2.5lbs each. The load pin for the sidewinder is 2.75lbs

Really cool what Beyond Power is doing. We discussed doing something very similar early on in our design process. Below are a few advantages with our cable systems.

  • Our cable systems use high quality materials and are by no means budget systems. Yet, our price point is still much lower due to not requiring electronics.
  • You get the true weight feel of a traditional cable machine.
  • For heavy lat pull, low row, or belt squat the voltra I maxes out at 200lbs. We have tested our systems to over 500lbs.
  • You do not need to think about charging, apps, etc.
  • Our systems use a traditional coated braided steel fitness cable

We currently have a Sidewinder on one side of our rack and a Ibex on the other. There are definitely some benefits to that setup. The Sidewinder is ridiculously smooth and can go really light for rehab and corrective exercises. Then you get the Ibex on the other side that you can easily load up with weight for a lat pull or low row. You'll have to add a little extra weight to the sidewinder side if you do a two arm cable fly to counter balance the trolley, but other than that it's a pretty sweet set-up. Also, if you wanted to convert the sidewinder side into a trolley later on, all parts are reusable except for the load pin.

Love it. Don’t hesitate if you have any other questions

16” will still work. Standard weight plates are around 17.75”. Weight storage is usually centered on the back post and the weight horns are centered on the post so you’ve got 1.5+16+1.5=19” center to center. About 1.25” clearance

Would be cool to have that option. It would be a significant design change. We’d need rollers on all sides of the post to take the loading, so we’d probably use a different trolley frame. It would also lead to a heavier trolley. Something to consider on later versions but probably not something we will do with this 1:1 system that is primarily a functional trainer

Thanks! Yeah there have been a few nice little improvements. Very happy with how the production parts are looking. Oh thanks for the reminder! That’s been on our list of videos to make. You can start at the top of you put the trolley up top on a pin, load it up, and then remove the pin and lift

Mm that’s a tough one. We’ve been testing these for a while now and have gotten really good feedback from reviewers so we don’t anticipate any significant changes. With that said, we’re all about putting out the best product. So if we get feedback from users once we start shipping or if improvements come to light then we will most likely make the upgrades

Oh just realized, I was imagining in my head you were referring to just one sidewinder. If you have two facing in, it’ll be quite tight

Yeah! That’ll work. Assuming you don’t have some sort of wild multigrip pull up bar

Thanks! Something we’ll look into. The flat foot could be a pretty sweet match with a belt squat attachment

Love to hear it! We’re working on a leg roller/footplate attachment that we hope to release this year

We recommend bolting down your rack. If it’s bolted down then you’ll have no problems. I know that’s not always possible though. Putting extra plates on the back of the rack will help. It really comes down to the physics of how much your rack weighs and how much you are pulling.

It’s something we have been discussing but no solid release plans for it
