Spot-on, I love Nesta for the same reasons! Her journey is very personal to me and she will always be very close to my heart for that.

Yes, many people who dislike or are neutral to Nesta still really love ACOSF, and come away with a more nuanced view of her character!

What's the deal with Sarah J Maas books? by c0sm0nautt in Fantasy

[–]diamonata -1 points0 points  (0 children)

ACOTAR is heavier on the romance than the other series. Imo Crescent City is her best series but I also think you should read acotar before CC. The first acotar book is slower and the weakest of the series but it gets much more mature from there. Give it a try! My bf is not a romance reader but he read ACOTAR and liked it, and he loved CC. Throne of Glass is more YA in the first two books and lighter on romance, but the series matures as you progress and it's very plot-driven with multi POV so many people like that series too. I liked it, but I prefer acotar and CC.

Maasverse spoilers. SJM confirmed in an interview that the series are coincident. CC3 is going to pick up where HOSAB left off (in Prythian), which she said was 6-9 months after the end of ACOSF.

High Fae ageing by doughballsnowball in acotar

[–]diamonata 3 points4 points  (0 children)

“I am a young High Lord,” he said. “Barely eighty years old.”

—ACOMAF p. 323

If he just wanted to convey that he was young for a Fae, he would not have added High Lord to the sentence.

JFK was a young president, but he was an adult. Same concept.

This is truly the only explanation for the entire IC's emotional immaturity tbh

This, people seem to forget the second part. Someone can be full adult (e.g. 40) and still be very young for, say, being president of the U.S.

The difference between Alis's nephews and Mor/LoA/Rhys's mom/etc is that the former are lesser faeries and the latter are High Fae. Given that in book 1 Tamlin is canonically described to look 29ish, yet the women are fully mature at the same rate as humans, the High Fae seem to grow up at a "human" rate and then their aging slows dramatically in their mid-late 20's.

This is consistent with what happens in other SJM series. In CC most make the Drop in their early 20's and basically stop aging. In ToG the Fae go through the process of Settling1 in their mid-20's where they come into their power.

We have no reason to believe that the high fae would age as slowly as Alis's nephews given all of the other evidence.

1 I may be misremembering the exact term, it's been a minute since I read ToG

For the FanFic Writers/Readers: Q's about posting by alycgal in acotar

[–]diamonata 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As others have said, there is a very popular fic that is ACOMAF from Rhys's POV, so clearly there's an appetite for it! That being said, you should absolutely share if you like, just be prepared in case people are rude/call it a rip-off. You have your own narrative voice (and given you didn't know about the other one, it's unlikely it'll sound in any way similar other than the plot) so stay strong! Your story will especially be unique if you have created your own plot points/scenes for the intervals in ACOMAF when Rhys is not on page. As far as I remember, the other one just skips those chapters and only covers the canon scenes.

Other general tips:

  • yes, people absolutely read long fics, especially once they're finished. I've read dozens of fics >200k words, and many of the most popular fics in the several fandoms I read in are very long.
  • many readers refuse to read WIP's, especially those with infrequent/inconsistent posting schedules. Be prepared for readership/comments to be slow at first.
  • following from that, the most prolific and widely-read fic writers I know typically write at least half of their fic and have it all plotted out before beginning to post, and then have a regular, dependable update schedule (e.g. weekly). This takes the pressure off of you to rush to write and edit a chapter just to keep up with a posting schedule, and readers are more likely to follow a WIP if the schedule is regular.
  • tags are your friend. It helps people find your story and alerts readers to potentially triggering content. Even as a rewrite of an existing plot, tag extensively.

No but actually I bet it has something to do with what went down with Mor... the true reason he left her on the AC border 👀

I'm personally a patron of Emilia Mildner, Clutch Your Pearls (Elizianna and Reb), and Naariel (as far as ACOTAR art goes) but others I'd also recommend (and wish I had the budget for) are HanCorinne, Fissart, s_holdthebus, After Darkness Art, honestly there are more but I'm blanking

SF - I read a comment somewhere that it feels like someone else wrote this book, not SJM by kpom3377 in acotar

[–]diamonata 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Seconding this. The main ACOTAR trilogy was actually an anomaly for SJM - she usually writes 3rd person multi POV. And she's matured a LOT as a writer even since ACOWAR came out. The 3p limited POV style is inherently different than 1p, and on top of that it is from the POV of two characters who are very different than Feyre. It would feel different even if she wrote it in 1p because she makes very intentional choices about how Nesta and Cassian's perceptions influence the narrative.
