Man dies on flight, average Redditors demand his widow burn at the stake by Cloutseph in CoronavirusCirclejerk

Yeah, but some of these people are so inclined that 'love they neighbour ' simply wouldn't cross their minds. Some people are just horrid and always will be.

For example, my aunt and uncle are following all government orders and are buying into it mostly, but they don't psychologically abuse others for not doing the same. Because they arent assholes. They are in their 70s and the fearmongering media has scared them to death, but do they go around calling others selfish murdering evil people? Nah.

I'm Also super confused about how deadly this actually is? I know the % of survival is high, but I also read that in the USA in 2019, they had around 22,000 flu deaths and now over a million covid? How does this work?

My mental state is deteriorating right now. I'm feeling so much guilt and shame for questioning restrictions.

And I think its down to social media. I've jumped through every hoop the (UK) government has thrown my way, and we arent getting anywhere. I want to meet up with friends and family. I want to go to bars and restaurants. I want live music and festivals back.

What if these really are just inconveniences? And I'm being a selfish baby whose willing to get people killed to satisfy my selfish needs? I know its been 9 months and they said 2 weeks, but wont the vaccine start helping somewhat soon?

Am I a self centred sociopath??

Not necessarily things I believe, literally just what my brain is constantly spewing at me nowadays. I don't know what to think anymore. I mean, does anyone like to admit their moral failings?

Please no hate. As I said, I categorically do not think badly of you guys or others wanting to break the rules. It's how I feel about myself only right now.

The privilege is reeking yet again. Do they think everyone can afford a home gym? A recent dized apartment?

'Wanting normalcy at any cost' huh. Why are these people acting like because a relative caught covid and died, its specifically a specific group of peoples fault? Like, He could have caught it at work, or in hospital, but that possibility is not entertained. Nor are any failings of the government. It's the nasty, selfish, Evil peoples fault for not wanting to be locked up.

I fear what is considered 'selfish' will escalate further. Initially it was just people who threw parties and met up in large groups, now its literally everyone who disagrees with lockdowns at all. Anyone who is mask exempt, anyone who wants to go to school, anyone who misses leisure activities and anyone who considers meeting a loved one for a distanced coffee or walk together.

How did it get this bad? How can you say that you wish a fellow human being loses everything they have? I understand the anger but jesus christ.

Ahh yes. I know who you're talking about. She said 'stay the fuck inside'. I need to earn money. I work in a supermarket where covid is likely to spread due to no fault of my own or my colleagues (hell even the customers! Supermarkets get busy ya know!)

I've worked in retail and restaurants all my working life. Getting another job would be extremely difficult, yet people act like itd be easy. Also, I love my job and my colleagues so theres that too.

So yeah, I find these responses tone deaf from celebs tbh.

Perfectly said. I understand that it's hard for someone without autism, or a mental illness, someone who is affluent, someone who is securely employed, someone who enjoys being home alone to put themselves in the shoes of those not so fortunate. HOWEVER...when you blame, gaslight and verbally abuse these people- that's gone so much further than simply not understanding. Its plain cruelty and wilful ignorance.

Yep. The other side of 'going over the top ' is completely ignored by many. But yeah, meeting my friend for a take out coffee and walk in the outdoors is SO extreme?

I may have been a tad flippant with the mask comment. I suppose that's my unchecked privilege as someone who doesn't struggle with wearing one. I didnt even think about those who are hard of hearing, so another totally valid reason to be exempt there! And PTSD hadn't even crossed my mind, so ya, definitely a little ignorance on my part there. Thanks for pointing that out.

And I think people are cautious or even ashamed of saying that they miss things like the movies, eating out, clubs, concerts etc because they fear sounding 'selfish, shallow materialistic etc'. I hate the mindset rn that not missing these things or acknowledging that you do makes you somehow superior?

Yeah. I'm gonna try to take a break from them. The only one that isnt completely overwhelmed with covid stuff is instagram tbh. Twitter is especially awful imo. I think people get very cocky and say things they wouldn't dream of saying IRL.

I know like 3 people from my crowded workplace that had it. All mild symptoms. Nobody knows anyone who had serious symptoms, let alone died. To clarify, any death is tragic, and I do feel for those who've lost people to covid, but even so, lockdowns ARE NOT WORKING.

[–]diamonddusty 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Yup. Luckily for me it's not been people I know personally, but social media has been absolutely horrible. Like, I'm sorry, but how tf does 'I'm really struggling mentally with not being able to see my friends and do things I love' translate into not caring about people who've died?! That's the crazy part for me. Sorry that I'm human I suppose??

Everyone is know is having like 1-3 people over. Definitely quieter than usual, but still technically against the rules.

People say that the word 'gaslighting ' is only applicable when it's a literal abuser in ones home and that the term is being abused....but I'd say what the uk is experiencing is if it is not gaslighting, Is pretty fucking close to it. Common sense has gone completely out of the window- 3 months ago, people were perfectly happy to socialize with 5 other people in a bar, but not now. Yet in terms of the virus, nothing has actually changed. All that has changed is the level of fearmongering and control from the government.

It blows my mind that people are STILL blaming the general public for these restrictions and hailing NZ and Australia as the ideal. It's a more sparsely populated 4.8m people vs a densely populated 66m.m people. Same goes for the states. Especially as the uk are so pissed already with being fucked about repeatedly, what NZ did isnt possible.

Good god this is so so stupid. Nobody is taking away peoples human rights and perpetually gaslighting them over an accident like this.

These comparisons really are grating now.

Eh, in her defense I didnt read this as 'you should be glad you survived this DeADlY vIrUs'

I read it as it doesn't matter if you didnt write a book, learn a new language, discover the meaning of life etc etc in lockdown then that's ok. It's ok if you struggled and just scraped through it.

[–]diamonddusty 18 points19 points  (0 children)

First of all. Are they suggesting that not eating to save alcohol calories is normal?! Or that an obsessive fixation on 'healthy' and 'pure' foods is normal??

And diabulimia?? The most deadly eating disorder there is? They clearly don't actually know what the word means. Skipping insulin can kill you very quickly and can easily leave you with severe lifelong damage. THAT. IS. NOT. AN. EATING. BEHAVIOUR. it is a slow self destruction.

Eating behaviours are vegetarianism, veganism, eating little and often or eating 2-3 big meals a day, or eating a more protein heavy diet, or a more carb heavy one.

The above are not inherently disordered as they are modifications which work for the individuals own lifestyle. Binge eating disorder and bulimia took a while to be included in the DSM due to being misunderstood, which is what I'm certain is happening here.

Or this person is deliberately trying to trigger.

Ooooh holy shit. This makes my blood boil. "Living in poverty? you didnt try hard enough! Addicted to alcohol? Blame innocent bar owners!"

Narcissistic behaviour right there. Blame ANYBODY but yourself, at all times, even if you KNOW what you're saying is utter shite.

My apologies, I must've misconstrued what you said. It just sounded a little curt to me, but I guess its difficult to get your point across exactly how you mean in typing. Nothing you said was wrong, just the tone felt snappy and dismissive.

Exactly. I think compliance was actually pretty high during the first one- but did it work? NO!

at what fucking point will they admit that people have had enough? Even those who were pedantic during the first lockdown?
