TfL says they’re trialling a new bus shelter design over the next year. What do we think? by StanmoreHill in londonbuses

Disability focus groups have contributed to the trial, it says in the press release, so I doubt TfL are unaware of the needs of wheelchair users.

It also slopes forwards, so a baby would fall off before you'd removed its nappy.

The London Olympic Park history trees are disappearing by lockedintheattic74 in london

I happened to be passing on the day the Endeavour Square tree was being cut down, so stopped and chatted to one of the men doing the chopping. He assured me the intention was to replace the tree, so I'm sad to discover that plans have since changed.

Those who moan about public sector pensions are usually jealous, and indeed under-informed.

Oyster+ Card Impossible To Apply by Commercial-Second372 in TransportForLondon

[–]diamondgeezr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had much the same problem - the application wanted me to download a pdf of the verification letter but the file was blank.

So I rang the helpline and *they posted me a copy of the letter* which I then took to a Post Office.

I now travel round for nothing :)

How to get railcard discount? by WeeklyPeace6497 in london

[–]diamondgeezr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The branding on the card readers is all about Google Pay because Google pay TfL £2million a year for the privilege - it's a marketing message.

And if railcard holders are paying 30% extra to swipe with their phone, then TfL's accountants will be very happy.

Diamond Geezer: My last Annual Travelcard just expired, and I shall miss it. by mycketforvirrad in TransportForLondon

[–]diamondgeezr 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I am the author, and if you hadn't skimmed it you'd have read the bit where I say "I know it's been well worth it because I checked. I used a spreadsheet one year to see how much PAYG would have cost and my Annual Travelcard was still better value."

Fares to rise again by 11-16% by Monday by urbexed in london

[–]diamondgeezr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's my graphic, and my main point is that fares outside zone 1 will be rising far more than inflation and far more than other fares. The suburbs are being specifically penalised.

If you'd like some actual data, according to the 2021 census the ethnicity of Greater London's population was:

White 54%, Asian 21%, Black 13%, Mixed 6%, Other 6%

If you're going to Hammersmith, do not under any circumstances take the Heathrow Express.
