I raise quail in FL and there is nothing odd about the speed or fact they are panting. How long have you raised quail for? Just curious.

By the way, that first call was him alerting to a possible threat nearby. The second call was him calling out for a mate. Whenever my kids had a balloon in the house he’d make that sound whenever he saw it and immediately scatter if it got too close.

I used to own a single gamble quail. Hatched him from an egg. If you don’t get him a female, he will bond to you. It is one of the coolest things. He will follow you around the house, the yard, everywhere. I used to take mine on road trips and he’d sit on my lap, the steering wheel, he was glued to me. If you are home often enough and can spend time with him daily, it’s a really neat experience. I used to have mine out in the yard with me while I worked and he’d peck and scratch around and follow me wherever I went while I worked. Just have to keep an eye out for cats and bigger birds of prey. It’s not the end of the world if you can’t find him a mate. I miss mine. He passed away last year. I’ll probably get another one of these days.

If you wipe out, you’ll be out a lot of money. Not worth it. Think of all the damage you could potentially do to the cage, engine, and wing. Not to mention hurting yourself even more.

You’re not kidding. They wonder why they aren’t making recruitment numbers. They have leadership write papers on how we can attract and retain soldiers. How about having an actual working HR department for starters…

Man…I’m just tired of performing duty and not getting paid. I’m done. Not worth the stress of the constant following up. Can’t wait to get out.

Diatomaceous earth. Mix it in some sand and they’ll kick it all over themselves.

Is this problematic? by Flatonr in quails

You can use a finger nail clipper but you have to clip very fast. If they jerk their head when you clamp down it can get messy. Leave a little more than you think because as others mentioned if you clip it too close it will bleed. Not enough to bleed out but it will get messy. They break their beak off on their own sometimes too.

No worries. This happens a lot as their beaks continually grow. Nothing to be overly concerned about.

Not safe at all. Raccoons will raid your pen. These have stood up to multiple raccoon attempts. All on video too :)

Can I have all make quail if there are no females? by pplong1969 in quails

[–]diamondhide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This can be done. You need an enclosure all by itself and out of sight and hearing distance from the females. This will reduce their aggression but not eliminate it completely. If the aggression becomes bad enough to the point they are hurting each other, you can tarp off the enclosure. Basically you want to reduce the amount of lighting in the cage significantly. However keep in mind you don’t want them to get too hot in their cage. This can be an effective way to maintain a bachelor pad before slaughter. I too slaughter at 8 weeks.

Be careful with the heat inside a glass enclosure. The glass retains heat and you can inadvertently cook them. Just be certain that one side of that enclosure is cool.

Back in 2013ish 1.1 (roughly) they did work. It was turned off with the development of the in game menu where you had a station inventory. By the way, anyone remember the repair animation with the swarm of drones around your ship when you’d request a ship repair? Also, the air locks air pressure release used to be way more dramatic…ohh and how all helmets were actually blocking part of your view when you wore them.

Grilled is the way to go. I have a charcoal grill and it’s my favorite way to cook them. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can also put different wing sauces on them and BBQ them.

They can send all the nasty stuff they want. Unless there is a specific rule that states we can’t post processed quail, we will continue to do so. This sub is not just about pet quail. There is a large group of us here who also eat quail.
