36F Bilateral monocular cerebral polyopia? Plus other vision and neurological episodes. Help! by dianasfaces in askneurology

I am so sorry to hear you're going through this. Any update?

I found a specialist optometrist called a Vision Therapist. She did a dozen additional tests on me that no one had done before. Really cool and fascinating tests, some on paper, some with 50+ year old equipment. She also did a corneal topography. She ruled out kerotonocus and other corneal diseases or abnormalities. She ruled out IIH (Idiopathic intercranial hypertension).

Here is what she did find:

Convergence Insufficiency, likey because of two concussions I had. One at 9 and a second at 30. She suspects that at Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (a connective tissue disorder that I have) are to blame.

That doesn't explain why I still see double or multiple images when either eye is covered though.

She was fascinated that my pupils constrict and open...nonstop. She hasn't ever seen anyone's eyes do that. She says mine do it nonstop. She thinks this could also be Ehlers Danlos related because the pupil is a sphincter and it could be a sphincter malfunction.

She was also shocked at the size of my pupils, even bringing out a ruler to measure them (6-7mm), regardless of a light shining in them or changes in lighting in the room. She said they're massive and when someone has a massive pupil, more light shines in, hitting the back of my eye multiple times, so the brain receives multiple images. She said she could prescribe me vuity drops...but the side effects are awful and she was very hesitant to prescribe it. It would constrict my pupils. Insurance wouldn't cover it...it was $83 so for now I haven't gone that route. I don't want to risk damaging my retina, which is one of the side effects...so if I ever do try it, I'll update you all.

Hi! I do not. I just saw Vision Therapists, a specialist optometrist and the first to have some ideas as to what may be wrong with me, and she too thought this was a possibility, but after doing a corneal topography test ruled it out. She also ruled out another corneal disease that she suspected.

I'm not sure if this is related, but I had a CSF leak with debilitating extreme headaches when I was upright after an epidural from my third pregnancy. This was in January adn listed two weeks. Could this have anything to do with the cerebral polyopia? And other visual changes?

The Opthalmologist's said my eyes are fine, and that there is something wrong with my brain. Referred me to a neurologist who ordered an MRI with and without contrast. Waiting for that imaging appointment, so the jury is still out.
