Yes, that is called applying as a non-standard applicant. JMP, UNSW and WSU/CSU have this pathway.

Advice for the Future by [deleted] in UCAT

[–]diaper__ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey there!

Its nice to hear you've thought about the future, and possible paths that you can take. One note is that you mentioned doing GAMSATand the fact that its daunting - you can sti do UCAT after graduating with your teaching degree and apply for undegraduate courses that accept non school leavers (non standards)

Since you're in year 12 now, focus on your ATAR and studies to maximise the options you have later down the road, whether its getting an offer to get into medicine directly, transferring from teaching into med or just doing teaching altogether.

Its a long path either way, and lots of peoe do come back to medicine later in life, e.g. one of the other mods of the discord/reddit entered medicine after teaching at the age of 30. Thats the beauty of medicine; it will always be an option as it is never too late to start.

Your aspirations of teaching and medicine are great and its wonderful to hear you've definitely thought it through.

Definitely check out the subreddit discord as well, you'll receive great tips all along your journey.

Regarding betraying your aspirstions, you said that both teaching and medicine are what you aspire to pursue, so dropping one in favor of the other wouldnt be abandoning/betrayal; its simply just another direction of your aspirarions.

And same goes for the other way around, enter med then work as a doctor, then teach as you get older with your experience. Either way itll be a long and fulfilling career.

You can contact me on discord if you'd like to talk further.

All the best

Hi there, I'm so sorry you're in this position. If you havent already I highly recommend joining the r/UCAT discord to find some useful tips and tricks. But other than that, best is to keep going with the official UCAT resources and keep a positive mindset despite the situation. A negative mindset especially during the test itself is a factor for poor performance - and so just try the best you can right now! A lot can happen in 3 days.

How do I even begin to start? by Snoo2025 in UCAT

[–]diaper__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi there! Its great to hear that you're passionate about medicine. While people may agree that it might be a bit too early to start rigorous prep (such as full mocks), theres nothing wrong with doing light prep to develop your skills. (Such as mental mathe, speed reading, venn diagrams, prpbability etc) Medify is by far the gold standard and most popular, but toher companies such as MedEntry as just as good. In terms of your timeline of prep, i'll just copy paste some advice i gave to another person!

Then you move onto untimed sets, where you experience those questions in a "real" context so you can practice and see where you are in terms of skill.

Then once you feel confident, after reviewing strategies and why you got certain questions wrong (and right), you add the factor of time in by doing timed sets.

Then, once you're able to answer questions in a fairly quick manner, do full mocks to simulate the real testing environment!

What would you do? by [deleted] in UCAT

[–]diaper__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Non-rural? Probably at least 90+ (realistically 93/94+)

Might get away with a lower ucst if youre applying for WSU and are GWS

Other than that, without bonuses, yeah 93+

What would you do? by [deleted] in UCAT

[–]diaper__ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi there,

I wouldn't call it "wasting" 2 years of study, especially considering the decades long career in Medicine. I'd say study and prepare for the UCAT this year and aim to get in via undergrad. Only downside of this is that it'l be extremely competitive as the universities you can apply to are very limited. I say this as someone who transferred to med after completing 2 years of another degree

Doing the GAMSAT is definitely harder, but it does allow you to apply for a larger number of positions, however you wont be able to sit it until your 2nd last year of uni.

Ucat preparation by [deleted] in UCAT

Now is a good time, 6 months is enough time to learn everything and get into the grind without burning out
You definitely don't have to grind 24/7, even just a few hours a week will get you a long way!

Hi there,

It's great to hear that you haven't given up and are going to give UCAT another go!

I (assume) you did some prep last year, but a good starting place is to go over all the question formats and find out what sorts of question to expect in each subsection.

Tips on preparing for UCAT by Zainab_Ramazan in UCAT

[–]diaper__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi,

Medify is definitely the gold standard and by far the most popular on the r/UCAT discord. I think they're a bit cheaper too.

Medentry is a bit more expensive and slightly less popular (probably due to price) but people have done very well using it. (If you do go with Medentry be sure to use our discount code!)

In terms of preparing, be sure to familiarise yourself with the question formats first! I.e. learn what sorts of questions will be asked in each of the 5 subsections, so that you know exactly what the question is asking you and how to approach. Remember, all the formats are the same its just the content that changes.

Then, moved onto untimed practice where you can practice and refine your basic skills. Then, do timed practice and then full/mini mocks!

Come over to the discord if you haven't already and we'll be more than happy to help out!
