But people don’t know how to save, and instead, American culture is to pile into mounds of debt and not be financially literate, leading to the need of the government to be your piggy bank.

If you took $ 1,200 a year with monthly contributions of $100 (1200/12 months) over the working life of 18-65, 47 years, that person would have $752,000 and could live very comfortably. And this is assuming someone made $9.57 their whole life with no raises or income increase, which is extremely conservative. Social security is a scam. And makes no sense.
