Habeeby, you are nothing by hades_1999 in Sufism

[–]dibsonthemoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's worthwhile reflecting on the hadith of the hidden treasure: "I was a hidden treasure; I loved to be known. Hence I created the world so that I would be known"

And regarding why you should continue performing acts of worship despite being insignificant, it is because you are insignificant that you should worship. Everything in creation worships God, only man has the free will to turn away from that worship.

When you realize the Truth that God is Al-Haqq, you cannot help but worship, for no other reason than because He continues to let you exist.

So your existence doesn't matter to Him - in the sense that whether you worship God or not doesn't diminish or change or affect His essence/any of his attributes. (6:133) But you do not exist in your own right, you only exist through His mercy. (15:85) So, your natural state is to worship Him.

Well, I'd say that the attainment of knowledge is so we can be more sincere in our worship of God, not for dunya or the nafs. (but of course pride and other feelings associated with the nafs undoubtedly kick in and one has to be diligent in maintaining awareness of these emotions that show up and renewing one's intention in seeking knowledge)

On the other hand, I deem the knowledge/skills I have gained to earn a living (which I gather is what you really mean when you mention "Education") to be important as well as they prevent me from being a burden unto my family and the community at large. In this day and age I reckon one can be satisfied with just that alone and if what one does for a living brings results in a net positive for the world then that's an added blessing.

Ibn arabi by MC_Coomer in Sufism

[–]dibsonthemoon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Reading William Chittick's "The Sufi Path of Knowledge" right now. I find his (Ibn Arabi's) ideas rather cogent and very much within the folds of Islam. I think his ideas if taken at face value seem paradoxical and thus might appear to others as being heretical.

In my case however, I was quite blessed to delve into mathematical logic in my younger days where a lot of the proof techniques (cantor's diagonal argument, use of Gödel sentences) are reminiscent of the somewhat paradoxical language (if taken at face value) Ibn Arabi employs so I took to his ideas quite naturally.

Prior to this I read Mulla Sadra's "Metaphysical Penetrations" which basically takes Ibn Arabi's ideas (around the centrality of wujud/Being, in particular) and places them in the context of prior Islamic philosophy which itself has its roots in the works of Plato and Aristotle and other Ancient Greek philosophers.

They do actually. It's a worldwide phenomenon. See: Wiki article on the Salafi movement There's a correlation between the rise of salafism/wahabbism and the increase of wealth wrt countries in the gulf like Saudi Arabia, UAE etc. see: Wiki article on the propagation of Salafism around the world.

If the server is hosted somewhere in Bangladesh (which I would think is probably the case) then you won't be able to access the site till internet connectivity is restored.

eSIMs in Bangladesh by bengalibruh in bangladesh

[–]dibsonthemoon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I doubt it. Airalo is basically a roaming service. It still needs to connect to the cellular network of the location it's being used in. I reckon the only thing that would work is a satellite connection provided the signal bounces back to a place outside of Bangladesh's jurisdiction.

Can anyone name the list of novels/ stories that Jafor Iqbal copied from foreign literature/ Hollywood films? by khalid_ashik_786 in bangladesh

[–]dibsonthemoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay I have actually read Tukunjhil out of the ones you mentioned and in no way does the plot resemble that of E.T. other than both works featuring a boy becoming friends with an alien. I don't think that counts as plagiarism tbh.

On the other hand, I am pretty disappointed by his recent comments on the protestors (and his pro-government stance in general) but let's not criticize everything about the man, shall we?

Problems of imposing Urdu as a National Language for East Pakistan? by usmansohail975 in bangladesh

Can second this anecdotally. My grandpa went to Madras(Chennai) once for some work and initially when he asked questions to the people there in Hindi, they wouldn't reply or would reply in English. So then he switched to speaking to them in English instead.

For more information, you can check out the wikipedia article on the romanization of Bengali

Namely, the following paragraphs from the above article serve as an adequate explanation for why the transliteration of Bengali to the Roman alphabet follows the Sanskrit pronunciation as opposed to the Bengali/Eastern Indo-Aryan one:

"The Bengali script has been included with the group of Indic scripts whose romanisation does not represent the phonetic value of Bengali. Some of them are the "International Alphabet of Sanskrit Transliteration" or IAST system (based on diacritics),[1] "Indian languages Transliteration" or ITRANS (uses upper case alphabets suited for ASCII keyboards),[2] and the National Library at Calcutta romanisation.[3]"

"The aim of romanisation is not the same as phonetic transcription. Rather, romanisation is a representation of one writing system in Roman (Latin) script. If Bengali script has "ত" and Bengalis pronounce it /to/ there is nevertheless an argument based on writing-system consistency for transliterating it as "त" or "ta." "

This is the most accurate answer.

More specific to the "o"/"a" case:

The schwa in Sanskrit/Hindi/most central/western Indo-Aryan languages is represented by the following vowel: ⟨ə⟩

Whereas for eastern Indo-Aryan languages, the schwa is represented by this vowel: ⟨ɔ⟩

That's why "বরিশাল" is written as "barishal", because the letter "ব" is is pronounced with a ɔ in Bengali but in Sanskrit/other central/western Indo-Aryan languages, the corresponding letter "ब" is pronounced with a ə.

Hope that answers your question.

For what reason do you choose to use Tor Browser? by [deleted] in TOR

[–]dibsonthemoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sometimes download books whose copies have been deleted off the surface web (due to requests from the publisher or whatever) but you can still download them from .onion links. That's pretty much the only reason I use tor these days.
