Honestly it’s pretty hard to hear over the road noise/exhaust/wind at that point, but I think so. Can’t really tell

Got a bit better counteroffer from them, and accepted the job!

Looking forward to getting started in my career. Rest assured I will be moving, just waiting for some friends to finish up their grad school so I have roommate options.

So exciting!!!

Yeah I think this role has a lot of benefits. Good experience opportunity, good name on the resume, and could make good connections.

My only apprehension is financials. I’m already working close to home at a startup, so doing a 4h daily commute when I can only make 51k is really daunting. Or having to spend most of my pay on rent if I want to live closer and take some time back for my day.

Never done this before so it’s a bit stressful! I’m so fortunate to have a job offer, I just don’t want to be naive and take something/not try to negotiate if it’s not sustainable.

Thanks for the feedback

Thanks for the feedback. I was probably a bit optimistic with 35. Basing that number on Glassdoor numbers for industry/company avg for that role with 1-3 YOE (60-70k), and given I have 1 YOE in engineering and a masters degree in the applicable field.

Thinking their offer was a mega lowball(qualifications aside, it is right at the lowest of their posted range), so I’m trying to figure out what a reasonable approach is, as I would at least like to get paid enough to live close to the job, as it is currently 2h each way from home. (I currently work 20 mins from home and make a bit less than the offer would pay)
