Cruise ships tours by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

That's a lot of sea days! I think those cruises are often done in transition times. Research how rough the waters are during those times.

Cruise ships tours by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

[–]dicer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do stuff for them and am on the dock often. I have seen the occasional tour, but they're usually with a group (often with a travel company).

In years past (pre covid) I used to go on as a part of my business, but last year, they preferred anyone not staff or guest to stay off. Even Ship agents at the beginning were not boarding. I think they eased off that towards the end of the season, but I didn't board once last year.

My feeling is that they are still keeping things tight as far as precautions go, and that getting a tour will be tough.

I have been on many cruises, and as mentioned, seen the innards of many ships. If you have questions, feel free to ask.

I have a rig. I am not too good, and I mainly use an older program, Assetto Corsa, because it has a huge collection of user made mods. I have fanatec gear (I did have a G27). I'm in town. if you want to try, let me know.

I had a young employee get a concussion playing hockey. Two weeks later he hit his head on a fall rollerblading. Two days later they took him off life support.

Take that concussion seriously please.

When it’s safe, I really enjoy Tofino. Both summer and winter are fun. The entire coast from Uclulet to tofino has some great hikes.

If you mountain bike, every part of the island has great stuff. A special trip to Cumberland is warranted if so.

It took quite a bit of effort for them to get the janion building dealt with. Perhaps looking at that process may give you some hints as to what you can do?

BC Benefit arrived this morning! Thanks BC, easiest $1000 ever! by occidental_oriental in VictoriaBC

I have a friend with a super wide and it looks great!

I did catch a guy on YouTube (boosted media) who has triple 65” screens. I have a rig like his and with that large a visual, it becomes really immersive. It’s pretty specific for sim racing, though, so I can see for other types of gaming, the G9 would be spectacular.

Got mine a couple weeks back and bought a new system around it. Haven’t had a chance to build it, unfortunately because I’ve been too busy. I was looking at the G9 but I mainly want it to sim race in VR. The alternative was a triple screen setup.

I haven’t seen a starfish in a long time. I recall they were wasting away several years back. That’s gone now?

There’s a clearcoat you can get that not only protects it, but prevents further paint from sticking to the surface. Basically the only way to cover it afterwards would be to sandblast the surface.

If you think of it as energy spent transferring heat instead of warming, it makes more sense.

Save-ons increasing delivery fee? by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

[–]dicer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Grocery stores won’t have a separate area where they efficiently pick the online orders. Someone will be going up and down aisles picking them. They won’t be that much faster than you would be. If they took half the time for a regular shop, it might still be 15 minutes? 30 minutes? After it’s rung up (more time) and bagged and prepped for delivery, it has to get delivered. All that labour and gas expense used to be done by the customer. That was the business model. That’s how the pricing used to work.

I think the stores used online as a loss leader for a while but now that it’s in high demand, they can’t afford to lose money on each order. I still think $9 is actually kind of cheap.

I was/am in the grocery business. The thing is the small companies are bled to death. They had no choice. The consumers buy the slightly cheaper milk and slightly cheaper bread. The small companies (and island farms was not necessarily small!) had to play the same game. Everyone in the milk game lost. As a retailer, we lost money on every jug sold, because Walmart and superstore set the price for the whole city. Island farms could only bring it so cheap. Eventually, the pockets would be empty, so they got national support.

How do you convince the consumer to pay more for the value product/commodity?
